Remember, Leftist Walter Cronkite told the American people that the War in Vietnam was "unwinnable" and people bailed on staying in Vietnam because they were told to by the Media.  Also, the nightly body count video on the "news" turned people off big time.

It’s easy to see in retrospect we were being manipulated.  Right now I wouldn’t say we should have gone in there to win; we shouldn’t have gone at all.  The Red Threat wasn’t as real as they made it seem.  Or rather, the threat directly from China or Russia was never real, the actual red threat was always from within, incubated in academia.

Exactly. Spot on.  Said way more articulately than I could also.

No, you point out an additional point, we have become too complacent.  It seems inevitable when a society solves the basic needs that people become lazy.  It’s probably very normal and rational from an evolutionary standpoint.  Hunger, cold, and direct threats drove our ancestors’ action for millions of years.  But you evolved to rest whenever you could, because rest is needed to heal and regenerate, but opportunities to rest were rare, so we have a drive to be lazy when possible.

In modern society we have solved hunger and cold, and in America we have no threat from invaders or tigers, so have no real motive to work or fight beyond bare minimal effort, so the lazy instinct is allowed free reign. Whether government is sending you a check or you earn money sitting in a cubicle or even doing actual labor, your basic needs are assured so you tend to zone out the rest of the time.

This doesn’t affect everyone but on average seems to be the trend.  Technology makes it much worse.  Screens instead of real life outdoor activities, especially in the young.  And feminism has destroyed what motivation males had left to out compete each other.  As a culture we are kind of rotting.

I'm with Rush on this.  I'm proud to be an American.  I'm ashamed and angry at our government.  Not the same thing.

Yes but we know what Anthony meant.  The left is trying hard to claim "America".  Just like Pelosi claims the Dems are for "democracy" and the Republicans are a threat to it.  Wrong on many levels.  First, we aren't a "democracy", we are a representative republic. Second, the MAGA Republicans aren't destroying it, they're trying to save it. Third, Pelosi and her ilk ARE the ones destroying America.  They want to redefine "America" as a socialist utopia.

You're right about social media.  Back during the VietNam war we saw it on the TV every night in (for the time) all its raw horribleness.  Fast forward to today and the various mideast wars are mostly vacant from the TV.  Even the body counts disappeared once Obama became president.  It all happened over there and so there was never a massive uprising against them as we saw in the 1960s-1970s.

We're seeing in Russia what we saw in VietNam.  The truth about the war is getting out despite the government censors.  And the people aren't happy.  The oppression is much more than we have here, but it's an amazing change from a few years ago.  What we may be seeing is the second collapse of the USSR.

Agree! Mainstream media scrubs blood and guts nowadays.  True, TV had it on every night but it was just one hour, otherwise life went on as usual. Today, we have our noses in our phone every waking hour of the day, at least the young do.  And you are right about the interim, Afghanistan and Iraq were for the most part theoretical unless you personally knew someone over there.  Media cleaned it up and internet had not yet become ubiquitous.  Today, information leaks out all AROUND mainstream aka State Controlled (both Russia and here) media.

Agreed.  Those conjoined with the Dems are weaponized also but you're right it's just not Americans running them. I used to be proud to be American.  Not anymore.

Not if “American” is the very anti-American woke left represented by socialist shithole big cities.  I’m still proud to be American if it means a constitutional republic dedicated to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness represented by people who still believe in free market economics, self responsibility and personal accountability.

They take orders from those who RUN the Dems. They also may be part of the Fascist Cabal that runs them.

To-may-to, to-mah-to.  The Dems and the Fascist Cabal that run them are conjoined. The Biden administration is the weaponized arm of the communist globalists.

I'd run if possible.  The big difference between Russia now and the US during VietNam is that in Russia you get drafted, given a weapon that dates back to WWI and sent to the front lines all in a day with little or no training.  During VietNam there was some training, modern weapons and a reasonable chance you'd come back home.

That’s a fair point.  Russia’s military today is a disgrace, very uncomfortable, even if you don’t die.  We’ve always been much better even given the unusual conditions in Vietnam, which were also very uncomfortable.

Maybe a big difference is technology and social media.  The truth about serving in Ukraine has gotten out to the Russian public even through government suppression.  Soldiers have cell phones, the Ukrainians were even using the pings to locate units.  One social media post can reach thousands in seconds.  With Vietnam you had one hour of controlled reports on the 5:00 news.  Even if a soldier could get a letter out without it being censored, it only went to one person at a time.  The horrors of the war did eventually come out but it seems to have taken much longer so perhaps a draftee was more ignorant of what he was getting into, especially early on, than the Russians are today.  Ukraine war is but half a year in and they already know.  Seems like we were in Vietnam several years before it began to dawn on the public how bad it really was.

Private corporate media is completely owned by the left and openly takes marching orders from the Dem White House.  This is the literal definition of fascism.  Wonder why the left keeps calling MAGA fascists?  Deflection and projection.

You'll never know what you'd do until you're actually in that situation.

Yeah but what would be your best guess?  I'm thinking I wouldn't have gone to Canada but I would flee Russia but that's because when I was 17 or 18 I was an idiot easily manipulated by authority and now I have the self possession to say fuck authority.  But that's not a fair answer either.

I was on a video call yesterday with a fellow partner from Tampa. His big concern is being without power for a week. I said “I know, I hate warm beer.”  Only a few people on the call laughed.

No power for a week is a very big deal.  Our neighbors were very envious of us with our generator, hearing it roar 24/7 while they were suffering cold showers and hot sticky sleepless nights.  A whole house generator is well worth the cost if you live in a hurricane zone.

I hate warm beer too.  Dad took us to Germany when I was 16 and restaurants served us all dark warm beer.  Yuck.  Yes, it was perfectly legal for me and my 14 year old sister.

Question:  If you were a young man in Russia today, would you leave to avoid being sent to Ukraine?  So what is the difference between that and fleeing to Canada in the 60s to avoid Vietnam?  We condemn those who did that.  Somebody explain to me the difference.  You cannot use “Russia is a communist shithole and the U.S. isn’t.”  The reality is in both wars you are fighting a highly motivated enemy on their homeland for a cause you don’t understand.

I stockpiled beer and Bourbon and I'm in PA. Oh, and young women too.

Good reason to hunker down at home.

We are off 200.

Our favorite restaurant is the Front Porch in Denellon. Fried chicken like it was intended to be prepared.
Their coconut merengue pie is wonderful.

I boarded up the whole house.

It's impossible to decide from which side this storm will come at us.

If it comes up on our east, we get hit with trees because our house is right up beside the forest.

If it comes up along our west, we get debris from the horse farms.

My record is pretty good, though. If I spend the energy and money to board up and totally prepare, the storm almost always slips by us. If I expect it to go away from us we get nailed. Irma hit us way hard but we were boarded up and did pretty darn good.

That’s how it works.  We lucked out here so far (this is our fourth season).  No real damage and only a week without power, but we have a whole house generator.  Mark made boards to fit all the windows so from now on we’ll be boarding up also when they come our way.  The worst we’ve been through was Fran in 1996 central NC.  Nobody was prepared.  A confluence of circumstances including municipalities’ policies of not allowing you to cut down trees, and a week of heavy rain loosening up the soil, led to massive damage from downed trees.

Good luck!

Spin Zone / How Hungary reduced abortion
« on: September 26, 2022, 02:36:04 PM »
If you have 4 children, you pay ZERO income tax for the rest of your life.  If you have one, 25% reduction and so on.

Hungary noticed people weren't reproducing enough so came up with this incentive.  Apparently it's working, they're  having more babies, and less abortions.

Here's my source, it's very long but EXTREMELY WELL WORTH IT.  **SPOILER**   One reason young people in Quebec are turning conservative is that Quebec had arguably the most draconian covid lockdowns in this hemisphere.  It woke young people up to the fact that centralized control is a bad thing.

Great education on Canada politics, Quebec in particular.

Peterson talks about the massive amounts of liquid natural gas Canada has.  Germany came and begged them for it and Trudeau said "No."  Because it's not "good business".  But that's because of onerous government regulation on ramping up production.  Canada could be energy independent and export enough for the world but won't because of the greenie left who are going to destroy Canada if they keep going.

Peterson outlines the best governmental structure. Not a dictator, not anarchy.  Keep power and decisions at the lowest most local level possible, from individual to family and so on up the structure, have a multilevel structure in between where each level only has what power is necessary.  He articulates it better than me.
