As usual, Limbaugh is spot on. This Media/Democrat panic is purely political. If Hillary were in office instead of Trump, we'd have NONE OF THIS. More excuses to grow government and take control from the individual and give it to government.
-
Exactly. If Hillary was president we wouldn't need a crisis to grow government. She'd do it through executive order.
-

That would be the tip of the iceberg. If she had a Democrat Congress, they'd pass every gun control, Carbon/Climate Change taxes, higher income taxes, more regulations and every other Rights, Freedom and Liberty crushing laws they could. Plus she would have appointed more Ginsburgs, Sotomayors and Kagans to uphold the unconstitutional crap.
If a divided Congress, like now, she'd make every deal she could with Republicans to do all of the above, and many would go along with her.
So, now they INVENT ways to implement this stuff, like what they are doing with a freaking virus like we've had many times before without all this nonsense.

Personally, I wouldn't do these comparisons as it is far too early to know what the final numbers will be.

But where was all the hysteria during the swine flu?

Wasn't a Presidential Election coming up.

Apples and oranges. Swine flu never presented the potential impact that this Corona virus does.
Besides, social media hadn't yet developed the ability to scare the bejesus out of people on distant continents simultaneously.

Wasn't a Presidential Election coming up.
Yeah, that too. Propagating a crisis like this would have looked bad for the anointed one.
But I still believe this has more potential negative impact that swine flu.

Besides, social media hadn't yet developed the ability to scare the bejesus out of people on distant continents simultaneously.
I think this is 80% of it

Maybe more. Our society has changed with the technology of communication. Runners, drumbeats, Pony Express, Telegraph, Radio, TV, Satellite TV, and now global internet and Social Media. People are more indoctrinated to rely on government and BLAME someone.

So you didn’t even read the article? Nice.

And we have a political party who has a stronghold on all of that communication, and are more than willing to use it for political gain, no matter the cost or consequences.

apples and oranges indeed. The swine flu was not just a risk for the elderly. And the 2009 swine flu pandemic infected some 700,000,000 people (if we are to believe wikipedia). What source would indicate that COVID-19 has worse impact than the Swine flu?

Now in several states they are demanding restaurants and bars to close. Next it will be retail businesses.
Sorry, I, for one, have had it with these charades. The lunatic left wants the economy crashed and massive unemployment, and will stop at nothing to get it.

Don’t fall for it. The “hundreds of thousands or a million” deaths is the worst case scenario and extremely unlikely. If you watch the actual interview he describes a spaghetti model like you see for hurricane landfall predictions. He describes the outer boundaries and says we will end up somewhere in the middle.
I like Fauci and at first glance he seems the voice of reason.
But then I started thinking.... why didn’t he do all this with the swine flu when Obama was president?
So I looked him up on wiki. He was born in Brooklyn NY of a Catholic family. What do you say the odds are he’s a Democrat? So I ask again: why didn’t he do all this with the H1N1 which was killing children or the SARS virus which had a much higher death rate than corona?
Was he trying to but nobody listened to him? Or does he, like Bill Maher, relish the idea of a depression so we can get rid of Trump? I don’t know. I wish I could trust him.

Every day this smells more and more.Many of these small businesses such as restaurants and bars cannot endure a two week plus shutdown. Their next target will be manufacturing.

That won't stop the kids from going on Spring Break. At least not all of them. So with the beaches closed, they will just have to congregate in bars, or hotel rooms or movie theaters. Yeah, that's better.

Bars and restaurants ordered to close by the Governor here in PA. State liquor stores also closed. We have no private liquor sales here, except for beer and wine in SOME supermarkets.

All of this ordering small businesses to close is their death knell. Many cannot endure 2 weeks of no income, and their employees cannot go without pay or tips.
These fuckin' leftist communist. Now we are hearing they want to stop all domestic airline flights. Next will be manufacturing. They want a massive financial collapse and it's in their grasp.

Mo’s Irish Pub in Wauwatosa had a big tent there this weekend presumably for tomorrow’s party. Driving into work today the tent was taken down and was being put into the tent rental company’s truck. Doesn’t look good.

No! I'm sure I will find at least one or two bars to have a few at tomorrow. Just saw the casino closed.

We might have you beat
Governor Walz signed Executive Order 20-04 ordering all bars, food courts and restaurants close to dine in guests as of 5:00 p.m. Tuesday and remains in effect until March 27th at 5:00 p.m.
For right now, here is the complete list of businesses affected by the Executive Order:
i. Restaurants, food courts, cafes, coffeehouses, and other places of public accommodation offering food or beverage for on-premises consumption. This excludes institutional and in-house food cafeterias for businesses, hospitals, and long-term care facilities;
ii. Bars, taverns, brew pubs, breweries, microbreweries, distilleries, wineries, tasting rooms, clubs, and other places of public accommodation that offer alcoholic beverages for on-premises consumption;
iii. Hookah bars, cigar bars, and vaping lounges offering their products for on-premises consumption;
iv. Theaters, cinemas, museums, and indoor and outdoor performance venues;
v. Gymnasiums, fitness centers, recreation centers, indoors sports facilities, indoor exercise facilities, exercise studios, and spas;
vi. Amusement parks, arcades, bingo halls, bowling alleys, indoor climbing facilities, skating rinks, trampoline parks, and other similar recreational or entertainment facilities;
vii. Facilities of country clubs, golf clubs, boating or yacht clubs, sports or athletic clubs, and dining clubs.

Almost forgot important part.
Governor Walz says the information is changing, "hourly" and it is "possible" and "probable" more executive orders will be coming.

Liquor stores? Why not office supply stores? Flower shops? Hardware stores?
At least liquor stores presume you are drinking at home and not in public - isn’t that what they want?
These states and municipalities are getting their first taste of tyranny, and they like it.
Time to affix bayonets.

I believe PA is a State run liquor store state. Easy for the state to close something they run.

Yes, we are one of the few states with a State run liquor store system. We also have a state licensed beer distributor system. However, for the past few years some grocery stores have been able to get "café" licenses and sell wine and beer, but no hard liquor. People have been trying to get rid of the State Store System for decades as the selection sucks, and the prices are MUCH more expensive than in neighboring states.
This is what a Communist system does. Less selection, poorer service, higher prices, no recourse. >:(
-
New Hampshire also has a state run liquor store system the commissioner has a helluva lotta power with the money he draws in. The setup along our southern border is when you enter NH on the interstates within a few miles you'll see a state run liquor store about the size of a Walmart. If you pass that next thing you'll see is a toll booth.

Yep. I lived in NC 2000-2006. The ABC stores were clean, shitty selections, and real shitty prices. I think grocery stores could sell beer and wine.
