Rusty & Student Pilots / MEI as initial
« on: January 29, 2016, 06:50:50 AM »
looking through the PTS it looks like doing your MEI as your initial FI might actually be a tad easier ?

opinions ?

background - 1600 TT 1480 Helo CRH-I and PSEL, building FW time and adding A-I & CMEL for purposes of applying at Regional airline, need to do 25 hours multi engine anyhow might as well do CFI while at it...

don't think it can get any better unless you buy some crap insurance from some crap company

just kind of blew me away that i get twice the damage and liability with 30000 hull for half the cost on my Avemco policy

and i won't even call geico or progressive, last time i did like 5 years ago, they gave me a great quote so I went to purchase and then they jack the rate up by 75% due to "lack of international credit"  :o

its not entirely on the employee side of things

i know from personal experience, i retired from being an auto mechanic after 15 years, joined the Air Force and subsequently used my GI Bill to become a helicopter pilot as well as gaining my A&P through practical experience. So, working in the helicopter tour business was only seasonal so I tried every off season to get a job at any of the auto parts stores during the winter, no dice. plenty qualified to do the job.

heck i even remember one time going in to get a muffler for my truck, trying to explain to the guy its a custom exhaust system, blah, blah, blah and he proceeds to say "let's look in the system"  ::) so after a while the manager comes by both of them saying well we can't help you  ::) after arguing for over 20 minutes with these two i point at the book on the shelf behind them and politely ask to see it, flipped to the back and cross referenced by the size and inlet/outlet i wanted and had them look it up "yep got that one in stock" i swear both of their jaws hit the counter "never knew you could do that...."

that's just one example of a job i know without a doubt I could do. yea i would be green as any noob in some regards but I would ripen a whole lot quicker given the chance.

so,,, yea... if you can't get past the electronic job application how you supposed to get a job. i'm not that old at 41 but i remember a time if you walked in the door asking about the job wanted sign in the window they would throw you into the deep end of the pool and see if you could swim or not right on the spot.

Had to pick up a new policy after divorce, I pay more for less on my auto insurance than I do for my Avemco policy.

No accident history, no tickets in the last 20 years, driving a little tiny econobox....

This is from USAA. Pulled a quick quote from State Farm it looked about the same.

Happy with USAA just didn't realize how ridiculous it was priced these day.

Now people are on about 6PC for some reason. He's a mildly annoying blowhard who adds no real value and asks simplistic questions a fourth grade pre-solo student should know the answer to.

FTFY  :o ;) :)

How's it work, I thought I saw a "how-to" on the AOPA site years ago but darned if I can find it.

So yea,,,, what's the deal ?

File a DVFR flight plan, process through customs out and in at port of choice (FPR?), bring my passport, etc etc ?

Thanks
