WHY NOT?

Hippos are the kittens of large water-dwelling mammals. You wouldn't kill a kitten, would you?

WOULD YOU?

Like Rush said, why not.

We seem to be willing to kill babies in this country.

They need to start offering hunts for them.

Hunts in Africa for them start around $10,000.

Good Lord yes, talk about invasive species. We also have a few colonies of macaques in the U.S.  NOT a good thing if they start spreading around. Look what India is dealing with.

OK.  I'll bring my Colt Python to shoot the pythons.  :)

Very true. Eating primates is traditional for native people. It's normal and evolutionary.  Animal rights types who think humans should eat vegan but also "get back to nature" have a lot of cognitive dissonance to deal with.

Are macaques gluten free? Because I have a gluten intolerance.

I’ve been looking for a full size revolver and WOW, those old Colt revolvers are becoming valuable!

All the "snake" revolvers, and pretty much anything Colt that isn't made anymore are through the roof.  Stick with Ruger or Smith and Wesson.

Of course!  Unless you roll them in breadcrumbs and deep fry them.

I didn't know what a Macaque was so I looked it up.  I HATE MONKEYS.  Yes, I will be down to shoot them, but not eat them.  I will leave them were they fall to ROT.

Did I say I hate Monkeys?  All Monkeys, including Chimpanzees, and those cute little ones.  I hate them all.

Oh... macaques are horrible, evil things. Worse than rats. Sewer rats with four hands and opposable thumbs. They unlock doors and get into your kitchen cupboards. They jump on your back and grab food right out of your hand. They pick stuff off each other's anuses and eat it. They raid and decimate crops. They are vermin. Literally vermin in many countries, dangerous pests, breeding disease and endangering people.

The only non-human primate I hate worse are Baboons with their hideous elongated snout. Like werewolves but they're real.

That being said, I can fall in love with a particular macaque.  Hua hua of YouTube fame, or Amari at the Phnom Tamao center in Cambodia.

Actually I don't hate them. What I hate is when people put their lives over human lives. Like the Topeng Monyet of Jakarta. Street performances using macaques put on by starving impoverished people. There's animal rights activists all concerned about the poor monkeys and trying to get this made illegal while not giving a flying fig about the poverty of the humans suffering just as much in the hot street just to get money for that day's meal. Self righteous, arrogant, first world moralists make me sick.

Chimpanzees are assholes. But I love Bonobos and Orangutans. There are some really nice species of monkey, and rare ones who deserve to be protected, such as the beautiful red-shanked Douc of Vietnam.  Bonobos REALLY need to be protected - maybe the one and only species I care a great deal about going extinct. They are sweet, loving, intelligent and second only to human as the best of the primates, and they're going fast.

They ALL creep me out.  The idea of taking a vacation to Cambodia or wherever that they have those monkeys running all over climbing on your back etc grossed me out. Put a clown suit on them and you may as well shoot me. John Wayne Gacy ruined clowns for generations, not that I was a big fan of clowns before Gacy assumed room temperature.

Personally, I think all the primates were here before us and deserve to continue to be here.  If they get knocked out by climate change, well that's a pity.  But I'd hate to see them go under because of our activities.  As it is the Anthropocene (what they're calling the era of sentient humans) is seeing the largest mass extinction since the dinosaurs were wiped out.

No they weren't.  Non-human primates evolved parallel to us after we split from a common ancestor.  They were not here first.  As for humans taking over habitats, any one human who cuts down forest to plant crops was likely born before any monkeys in the area, so quite literally, that human was here first. Just because wild animals occupy an area at the moment doesn't give them any more right to it than any creature has ever had in the history of the planet. Life has always taken over territory from other forms of life. When you start giving animals more "right" to land than humans, you get starving humans.

I will grant that our species has had a population explosion and is indeed taking over a lot of territory, but all signs point to a limit when the developing nations advance into the first world. Bringing modern technology, electric power (fossil fuel burning) to the third world actually results in much better prognosis for the earth: Populations stabilize or even begin to reduce. The best thing we can do to save the planet and the environment is to spread first world technology to all peoples.

Species won't get knocked out by climate change, they'll evolve into other species more suited to the new climate, just like they've been doing for 4 billion years. Individual species do go extinct, hence why I feel so strongly the Bonobo needs to be protected. It is exceedingly unique. But we cannot ascribe the same value to any and every species; they're just not that special. There are "unique" species in every nook and cranny of the planet and they are there because they evolved for just that spot. If we try to save them all we will be paralyzed - it would be a disaster economically, it already is when government in the name of "protected habitat" prevents humans from growing food or using land for economic benefit.  You can make a case that almost any species is endangered, because conditions change all the time whether man made or just naturally. To use that to restrict and control human progress is disastrous.  Personally I feel it should be used only in very limited small number of cases, such as the Bonobo.
