Spin Zone / Re: TSA helps DEA steal old man’s life savings: $82K

To get more specific, the problem in government are the SES (Senior Executive Service) types.   These are the ones that make regulations and guidance to achieve whatever goals they want, and with seldom oversight.  These are the ones in the FBI/DoJ that have created the biggest problems.

In municipalities it's the Sheriff's Offices and Police Offices, more specifically the leadership that creates these confiscation schemes as a way to raise funds for the department.  They go on the premise of "you can't fight city hall" as well as knowing how expensive it could be to sue and try to regain the funds.

 Here's one example:  https://pulitzercenter.org/reporting/st-charles-county-law-enforcement-reaps-benefits-i-70-cash-seizures

Suck, Squeeze, Bang, Blow. That's what happens in our piston engines.  Makes lots and lots of vibrations, which is why our engines are life-limited.

Turbines go round and round.  Nowhere near as much vibration, so their duty cycles are far longer.  That, and JetA is more widely available than 100ll.

Jet engines operate on the same principal (suck squeeze bang blow) and you are correct, due to the rotation of the engine components results in much less vibration.  The engine oil never touches the combustion process either in a turbine.

The enemy of the turbine is the start cycle.  The engine goes through a temperature range from ambient upwards of 800c in a minute.  This is why the use of exotic metallurgy and highly precision tolerances are used.  Once the engine is operating and stabilized it will run as long as the fire doesn't go out (fuel exhaustion).  GE and P&W have turbines running pumps and powerplants that operated for months on end with never shutting down, and need very little maintenance.

Actually, it happens all over the nation with multiple law enforcement agencies.  They can steal your shit on a pretext, and it's ferociously difficult to get it back.

That said, traveling with $82K on an airplane is obscenely stupid.  Cashier's checks, traveler's checks, and other financial instruments take the risk out  of this at very low cost.

Problem is, if you show up at a bank with $82,000 cash to deposit, this will trigger all sorts of things (depending on the state).

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

A down side to yesterday was the House managers got to introduce a lot of stuff as evidence just by arguing the amendments.
If you haven't seen this yet......

Can't find a straight link to it.

Yep.  However, their droning, and hysterics are only making this more painful for the 4 senators they are targeting.  And remember, it's not about the people watching, it's all about the senators voting.

Even through the theatrics and hysteria, ALL of Schumer's amendments got voted down.   The longer the dims try to drag this out, the more determined the republicans will become to end it.

The real victim of this impeachment hoax is the American people.

All of the Schumer amendments were tabled last night with straight party line votes.   Nadler blew a gasket.

One of the arguments has been that Trump is working to fix the election. Does anyone here thinks Trump feels he needs any help getting reelected?

Projection.

The only way the dims can win in November is to fix the election, which is the purpose of the impeachment.

Why not, CapnRon or Brian would have expounded on it for you gladly.

Does Levy still claim to be a confidant of the FAA?

Kuck her out for the rest of the trial and don't allow her to vote.

She's a dim, so nothing will be said, or done.

Klobachar just ran out and is speaking to the press.  Senators are not suppose to be giving interviews and speaking on the case.

Schiff's body language is very telling.   The dims house managers are very agitated while the President's legal team is calm and collected.

Schiff's eyes have almost popped out several times today.   He's visibly rattled by Trump's defense team, and he's also not comfortable with not being in control of the process.

Local morning talk guy (Libertarian) believes it all just so the Dems will have good commercials for the campaign this year.

That's a big part of it.  If they actually get lucky, they possibly could screw up and actually get an indictment (not likely).

The dims know they have no one running worth a damn.  I can bet you the dims are heading to a brokered convention, with only knows what being selected.   This is a hail mary pass in a desperate effort to smear Trump in the election.

Listening to opening arguments on the terms of the trial today, it's easy to see the desperation of the dims.

Here's something to give you an idea on fuel economy  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_economy_in_aircraft

Huge advances have been made in turbofans over the past 25 years which has made significant inroads into the turboprop operating regime.  And to be fair, even turboprops have steadily improved.
