Title: C.S. Lewis quote from my .sig
Post by: bflynn on December 07, 2015, 01:36:40 PM
Thought it was an interesting quote, but nobody wants to read all of this in my signature...so, here's what I'm saving you all from by having the shorter one.  Enjoy.

Quote
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be "cured" against one's will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals.

TL;DR

I think C.S. Lewis is spot on.  We are in an era of Progressives who feel morally superior to trample rights, and privileges because in their minds, the ends justify the means.  In their pursuit of a Utopia that can not be realized, they are willing to destroy the very underpinnings of our society, and the values, and characteristics that made our country great at one tiem.  We are becoming like everyone else, the lowest common denominator.

BTW - remember that the quote applies whether your consider yourself on the left or the right.  We see the left in charge right now, but it would equally intolerable to be "progressed" into good habits by the moral saints on the right.

The pendulum always swings.

I haven't seen any significant legisaltion or regs from "the right" that intrude upong my freedom.  The Patriot Act was BIPARTISAN.  We have been controlled by THE LEFT since at least 1964, probably more like FDR.

"They" like us to be arguing left vs right, etc., because while we're distracted they "all" are boning us.

Bingo.

Look at the response to the Islamic radical terrorist attack in CA.

Issue:  Unvetted immigrants.

Government Response:  Let more immigrants in. Oh, and more gun control, NOW. We've got to blame SOMEONE other than the Muslim radicals - I know, let's blame the "gun culture."

Left Response:  Hell Yea. Fuck the xenophobic far right wing. And fuck the NRA.

Right Response:  Obama is a fucking nut job, and screw the left. We just want to be safe. And get your damn hands off my guns.

SO far I haven't seen anything out of the American wing of the communist party (Dems) that resembles goo sense, where terrorism is concerned.

As for the republicans, you have to wade through the progressives like John McCain and Lindsey Graham to get to anything resembling common sense.
