At my church we switched from a set fee based model for paying for things like meals and such as gatherings to a donate what you can model. In analyzing the results over several years of data we found we were getting more money then before. So maybe it's not the model but the population that uses the model that is the issue.

Of course what is left out of your story Mark is that Carrier decided not to move the factory to Mexico just as Trump said. the jobs that will be lost will be due to automation which is the only way the factory can compete. In this story on CNN Money it says that manufacturing is up 150% in the last 40 years but the work force is down 30% due to automation

I use the same test for beginning of life as end of life. An EEG can detect brain function and that is what is often used for end of life decision so let do it to start with. Given that I'm ok with abortion before but not after that point. I'm for gay marriage but also for the right of others to not support it. I believe in helping out those who can't take care of themselves but not those who don't feel the need to take care of themselves. I think drugs should be legal for adults but not for kids as I don't think they can make good decisions about themselves. Defining what a kid is, is a lot tougher question.

Don't get me wrong, I think being an LEO is a crap job and they deserve lots of respect. But being an LEO is not the most dangerous professions, indeed a long way from it. More dangerous to be a longer, a roofer, and yes even a pilot.
Trees don't go out of their ways to kill loggers. Roofs don't decide one day to kill roofers and airplanes don't wake up in the morning deciding to go get a pilot because they don't like them. While there are jobs that can kill more of their practitioners then being a cop, none of them have sentient beings deciding to kill the practitioners.
