That's a relief.

I thought you were going to say you were tired of arguing with us racists and that you were going to go away, like Captain did.

When I saw the title I thought the same thing.

My opportunity during the normal day Monday through Friday allows me to be on a network that someone else provides. The policies governing  The use of the resource has been updated and politically-based social media is no longer permitted. I am writing this  using my iPhone which has its own special challenges on PilotSpin.  If it takes me a little longer to respond to any discussions or questions please forgive me. If you specifically need to reach me for discussion please PM me and include a link to the post, in case I missed it.  I'm not gone but my daily word count is expected to drop significantly.

Mr. Shapiro is adroitly ignoring the factors that make things as they are.  You cannot ignore past policies that disadvantaged groups based solely on color and not expect to see a result of that.  It's called racism.  I'll post about this in another ongoing thread related to my findings on STEM in predominately black schools.  I'm really waiting on one more piece of data, but I don't think it will significantly disturb the conclusion, so I'll post it later this afternoon.
This is about the only area in which I agree with Henning, the federal government has done more to harm the "black community" and race relations than any other organization.  It is in fact, shameful.  And yes, I am fully aware that the government is predominantly white folks.

Diversity of Derogatory. Who'd a thunk it?

I'd like to publicly state that I was not acutely aware of the racial component of the term "Snowflake". I used it recently referring to Stan and if it was taken in that manner, it was not intentional. I suppose it's akin to the blackface issue at UW-Whitewater.

Maybe I need some racial sensitivity training (?).

It wasn't taken in that matter, You chocolate chip.  ;)

Thank for your comments John. What do you have to say about those Blacks not on welfare? There are a lot of us who are gainfully employed. In what ways has liberalism hindered us?

The same way it hinders all hard-working, successful people:  by over-taxing the fruits of their labor, over-regulating their efforts, imposing stupid control over them such as Obamacare, and in general trying to regulate their lives.

I've read about several initiatives to get STEM and Computer training into classrooms where there is a high black concentration.  This is all private activity.

I also personally donated time to a majority black HS and have a few friends that do the same (at other HSs).
I'm happy to hear that Jaybird!
Keep it up and spread the word.
The best help is self-help.
Someday we will get where we want to be.
I'll try to help do my part by standing against racial prejudice.

What's your opinion of the "Patriot" Act?

I don't like it.  I saw it as a way for Big Government to take advantage of a crisis and reduce our freedoms, and liberties.  In addition it created DHS/TSA, and grew government vastly.  Another huge bureaucracy to pay for, and be controlled by.  I blame both the Republicans, and Democrats.

Mr Franklin hits the nail on the head once again.   ”Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither.”  I hope this ends up at the Supreme Court.

I long for a day when we won't have a black history month because we will just study history regardless of skin color, give credit where credit is due regardless of skin color, praise that which is praiseworthy regardless of skin color, and condemn that which is condemnable regardless of skin color.

MLK Jr and I have the same dream.

"I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

As an editor and English major, I cannot find anything in that statement to counter the impression that he is referring to "colorblindness."  In fact, he is shifting the focus to character, where it belongs.  He is not saying color does not matter, but that it is not a factor by which to judge someone.

I just wanted to say that I really like this venue, I like that people can assemble to spout off and agree or disagree, and I appreciate that Jaybird has the cojones to go into the "den of infidels" to try to enlighten us.

While I may disagree with him on probably 99% of politics and/or religion, we are brothers in the air and I would gladly ride right seat with him any time.  This kind of fellowship may, in the long run, help us to overcome our disagreements.  Maybe,  Worth a try?

Beware declinism, the usually-incorrect belief that a country or society is in a nose-dive from which they cannot pull up. Though it is from a few years ago, you may enjoy this article. As I have aged (and don't get me wrong, I'm not exactly old and wise), I can feel a growing tendency to lift my cane and shake it in the general direction of the whipper snappers. This is entirely normal, as far as I can tell; the tendency to think that the good old days are gone, and everything is going to hell. And the feeling arises whether discussing "kids these days" or the functioning of our Republic.

But I actively fight against that. I do not think the default position should be a belief that the country is going to hell. After all, folks have been saying that for a century or more, and it has yet to come to fruition. So based on experience alone I think that is a poor conclusion to come to. Rather, I try to recognize that the world is changing, just as it always has, and as I get older, my ability to change with it is naturally in decline. So I must work diligently to understand the current world through the eyes of those who will continue to build it, rather than wholly through my own eyes or those of the folks who will soon leave it.

This is not to say that the older generations don't have fantastic input and wise advice. But I choose to believe the Republic is strong and not on its last legs, and work from that starting point. This is why I am wholly against drastic changes to fight against the "demise of the country". You may believe that the Republic will soon meet its demise. That's fine, as long as you understand there is a long line of people before you who believed the same and were proven wrong.
Fine and very fine.  Just remember that "decline" is often used to describe "dysfunctional change."  As I go about my day, I constantly observe and cogitate.  Glacial, but sometimes extremely fast, changes are always occurring in the world I see.  It doesn't take an exceptionally fine mind to extrapolate forward and back to see where we might be going.  And, optimist and rationalist though I know we'd like to be, we are not going anywhere good when it comes to individual freedom, economic responsibility, and a host of other things that are critical to a functioning democracy.

I think a test is necessary for the survival of the Republic. Otherwise, these college kids of voting age will be able to shape the country:

The Egyptians kept good records.

I believe none have been found indicating the Jews were ever enslaved there in the first place.

One might expect the destruction of a portion of the Pharaoh's army in the Red Sea would have been worthy of note.

Also, one might expect the Jews wandering in the desert for 40 years to have left some trace, or account beyond scripture.

Not saying all this did NOT happen, just that it's worth looking at biblical accounts with a critical eye.
