Title: Medicare
Post by: Rush on November 21, 2020, 11:02:24 AM
Totally off topic.  Do they have humans anywhere that you can meet in person and talk about the ins and outs of Medicare?  I can’t seem to find anything online.  Are there Medicare/SS offices?

My husband turned 65 in 2019 but is still working full time and is covered by the company health plan. We understand you don’t have to sign up for Medicare if you’re working and are covered elsewhere, but I don’t trust the bastards. I’m scared whenever he tries to sign up he’ll get the late penalty.  I’m trying to read through all the online bullshit and can’t get a straight answer. I really want to sit down with a human.

You do still have to sign up for part A (the free part).  Otherwise, you lose some of your rights.

I found a local insurance broker that has been giving me very good advice, and I have recommended several friends to him that are happy.  Insurance brokers (generally) don't charge you anything.  They insurance companies pay a commission and you pay the standard rate whether or not you use a broker.  Don't get an "agent" unless you know he works for the company or companies you want to use.

Healthcare.gov has a button on their home page to help you find someone locally.

You could try https://www.medicarerights.org/ (https://www.medicarerights.org/) - they are a private advocacy group.
Also, I purchased this ebook:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CO34BIC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_d_asin_title_o02?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CO34BIC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_d_asin_title_o02?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
It says that Medicare is short-staffed so they try to discourage providing one-on-one help. Chapter 4 of that book covers situations on when it is safe to delay Medicare on turning 65 when a person is still employer covered.

Just ordered it, thanks! Why am I not surprised they don't want to actually talk to you. Hey, why don't we force this plan on ALL Americans all the time! Biden will get that done for us for sure, I can't wait.

I remember when my wife was put on disability. Not being familiar with it I noticed they were taking out money for Medicare, yet she was on my insurance. I told her to call and tell them to stop it. They did and, of course, when she started back they charged her the penalty for some time.
