Straight from the lip. I agree with almost everything he says. The guy is a walking poster child for all that is good in US aviation.

I read that and mostly agree. I'm not sure I'm sold on the need for 1,500 hours for the right seat, but I'm not trying to be a pro pilot so it doesn't matter to me.

Ectually, I thought his reasoning for the co-pilot req were very sound. The idea is that each pilot presents a single point of failure. Incapacity, or some other issue affecting the pilot should not thrust the entire task on a co-pilot with less qualifications. The 1500 might be debatable in gradient, but hours means exposure, and experience. I think 250 is way too low for right seat on a comm airliner, including regionals.

Isn't the requirement for Regionals 500 hours?  I used to stick my head in the cockpit and greet them then say, I have more hours than both of you combined.  They would look at me like I had three heads, so I stopped doing that.  LOL!  One guy was pretty cool, and he let me sit right seat when they were starting up, totally against regs, and I got to light the turbines.
