WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Supreme Court deadlocked Thursday on President Barack Obama's immigration plan that sought to shield millions living in the U.S. illegally from deportation, effectively killing the plan for the rest of his presidency.
The outcome underscores that the direction of U.S. immigration policy will be determined in large part by this fall's presidential election, a campaign in which immigration already has played an outsized role.

A 4-4 vote will uphold the lower court's rulings, making what the President doing unconstitutional. Of course the President said he won't deport the illegals anyway in clear contradiction to how the SCOTUS ruled.
This is a big victory for the Constitution, though it's likely not the last time this will be ruled on by the SCOTUS. I suspect that it'll get re-heard once there is a 9th Supreme Court Justice.

I wonder how that vote will turn out if Hillary appoints the next SC Justice?

Hmmmmmmmm............well......uh......gee, that's a hard one. Clue or call a friend?

I guess it depends on how badly Trump drags the down ticket races, leaving the Senate in jeopardy.

I think the Senate was in jeopardy even before it looked like Trump was going to be the Republican nominee.
Back on topic, the President also tried to say that because the Republicans didn't confirm Garland to the SCOTUS, the vote turned out this way. It wouldn't have mattered anyway because he wouldn't have been confirmed in time to hear the arguments anyway.

More fear mongering.
Those senate seats were in trouble before Trump began his campaign.

Do you think Hillary will succumb to appointing a conservative justice regardless of the makeup of the Senate?

Maybe, but Trump does not appear to be helping things.

Did you see his speech the other day?
If so, what did you think of it?
If not, you should. There is a link to it on another thread here.

I thought it was meandering and way, way over the top. Indeed, the saddest thing is he had really good substantive charges to make. But instead of making them in a clear and coherent fashion he used over the top rhetoric that was so off base that he lost the original, and very reasonable accusations.
I also think it wonderfully ironic that all the GOPers complained that Obama always used a teleprompter, and that we could do naught without it. So what does Trump use in his big speech? You guessed it, a teleprompter. Not that I criticize him for it, I can't blame any politician from using notes, indeed its a pretty good idea. Just that he did the thing that Obama was so badly criticized for.

Emperor Obama is criticized because his "brilliant oratory skills" only work when he's reading someone else's words. Take him off the crutch and he's totally inarticulate and he's exposed as the dunce that he truly is. BHO, the country's first manufactured president.

Take Trump off prompter and he's not a dunce, he's a delusional madman.

No, he's a pro at brand promotion.

I think he's shit at promoting his presidential brand, but it has apparently worked on a lot of Republican primary voters, so what do I know?
"Look, I don’t have to say it, I’m Presbyterian. Can you believe it? Nobody believes I’m Presbyterian. I’m Presbyterian. I’m Presbyterian. I’m Presbyterian."

The Senate is the firewall, as the Constitution so brilliantly spells out.
Drag down the down-ticket races and lose the Senate, and it doesn't matter who's at 1600 Penn. Ave.
How many GOP Senate candidates are lining up to campaign with Trump?

The Trumpkins forced writing off 1600 Penn. Ave when they gave their Orange Lord the nomination. The Senate is all that stands between Hillary and a whole shitton more power.
