That might be a great idea.
-
If they did that at the Dem convention, Hillary may not win. ;)
-
Why not try it at the democrat convention.
After all the results of voting are always made up. Might as well start early.

Why not try it at the democrat convention.
Why not both?

A federal court has ruled that state laws binding delegates are unconstitutional.
Earlier today, in Correll v. Herring a federal district court in Virginia held that provisions of Virginia law that purport to bind state delegates to a national party convention to vote in accordance with the state’s primary are unconstitutional. Specifically the court found that such provisions impose a “severe burden” on the First Amendment speech and associational rights of convention delegates and political parties and cannot survive strict scrutiny.

I think we should just go back to the old days. Whoever has the most guns and weapons wins. ;) ;D

I don't know that it would work, but it'd make damn fine TV. It would be the smartest thing for the GOP. They're going to loose the election for POTUS and they know it, Trump can't even win against Hillary. They'll still loose if the draft someone else, but at least that someone will talk the talk. Odin only knows what going to com out of the Donald's mouth. I sort of miss the wilder moments, again damn fine TV.

Pretty straightforward.
People are making speeches while the delegates file out and vote in voting booths. Then there is the high drama as the convention chair announces the results of the 1st ballot, then God willing, the second ballot, etc.

CLEVELAND – A long-shot, last-ditch attempt by a few Republican delegates to prevent Donald Trump from securing the GOP nomination failed by an overwhelming margin late Thursday night.
Some anti-Trump delegates on the Republican National Convention Rules Committee sought a strategy to unbind convention delegates, allowing them to vote their conscience against Trump even if they were bound to him by primary results. Delegates loyal to Trump and the Republican National Committee fought back by proposing a counter-measure to clarify that all delegates are bound to vote based on the primary results.
The votes came near the end of a marathon 14-hour session of the rules committee to set any changes ahead of next week’s convention to officially nominate Trump as the Republican presidential candidate. The first vote, on the pro-Trump measure to keep delegates bound, passed easily, 87 to 12.
Immediately following that vote, Kendal Unruh, a Colorado delegate who has led the efforts to unbind the delegates, offered her highly anticipated amendment. She gave a speech beforehand calling the ability to vote one’s conscience a “God-given right.”
“The right to conscience is not just something that we’ve decided is a cool idea. It’s something that is the very basis of our nation,” Unruh said. “It is why the pilgrims came here and founded our nation. It is a God-given right to why we have the Bill of Rights.”
Immediately after that, however, Michigan delegate Matt Hall moved to end debate on the measure, and more than two-thirds of the committee, 77 to 21, voted to cut off all debate while some anti-Trump delegates, including Utah Sen. Mike Lee, were still waiting to speak on the matter.
The committee then voted against Unruh’s amendment by voice vote, with the opposition so clear that a recorded vote was deemed unnecessary.
Though there are other potential moves for the anti-Trump candidates that are even longer shots than the rules committee plan, the vote against Unruh’s amendment effectively ended the "Never Trump" movement and sealed Trump’s fate to be nominated here next week.
Those pushing to unbind the delegates can still bring forward a minority report by Monday, which would force the issue to be debated by the full convention, but they were well short of the necessary 28 supporters for that Thursday night and would need a massive shift in support over the weekend to turn the tide.
Still, the anti-Trump delegates made sure their voice was heard. Lee, who had kept his decision private up until the issue came to a vote, spoke passionately on behalf of unbinding the delegates and made his opposition to Trump as a candidate clear.
“This problem, this angst, as we will see in a few days, isn’t just going to go away just because we paper over it with rules,” Lee said. “So I say to Mr. Trump and those who’ve aligned with him: Make the case. Make the case to those delegates who want to have a voice. Make a case they should use their voice to support him. Don’t make the case that their voices should be silenced.”
Steve Munisteri, a committee delegate from Texas, directly rebuked Lee for his stance. He said that Lee’s logic ignored “what are really the grassroots” of the party -- the millions of voters who voted for Trump to be the nominee.
“The only way to advance the conservative cause is through a strong Republican Party that is united to defeat Hillary Clinton and the Democrats this fall,” he said. “Sir, there is nobody else running for president in this party right now other than Donald Trump. No other person has said ‘I am running; I will accept your nomination.’ Nobody is vetting vice presidents, nobody is raising money with the Republican National Committee to prepare for the battle.”

Yup, the anti Trump movement has been quashed in its tracks. He's the guy. Not such good TV.

I'm glad that there has been such public push back within the GOP even if it has been for naught. When we end up with either the disaster that is Hillary, or the disaster that is Trump in the White House, there is a record there that many conservatives where not onboard with the Trump crazy train.
It sure feels like a Hillary win right now, but a lot could happen in the next months and there may be some independents that would like a ride to crazy town.

I just don't get the feeling that Hillary has this locked up yet. It would be different if she was the least bit likable (by anyone other than Steingar).

Tell me which Democrat is likable to any but Steingar?

At BOTH conventions.

Ohio has open carry, and I think there are going to be a LOT of guns in evidence outside the convention. Damn fine TV.

What is most sad for my country is while the Republicans are having a true conflict of conscience over Trump, no such conflict exists for the Democrats over the most flawed and criminal candidate ever to vie for the office of POTUS.
We are truly fucked.

We'll see, a lot of Democrats really wanted Bernie, but I agree, they seem more on board with getting in line behind Hillary. Their reasoning is- ...well because Trump! The polar opposite of what is going on with the conservatives.

The recent polling shows that Trump has a little over 80% of the Republican base locked up, with a 5% defection rate to Hillary. Hillary on the other hand is at under 80% with the Democrat base, and is seeing 12-15% defection to Trump.
I suspect that does not yet reflect the result of the Sandersnistas feeling a deep betrayal/disillusionment with the Bernster endorsing Hillary - even after gaining some concessions in the platform. The current defections are most likely, I think, Dem's of principles who just can't deal with the non-stop flow of scandals Hillary has going.
Both Trump and Sanders were beneficiaries of true, groundswell movements, and while both were in part a reaction to the mismanagement of their respective party, in the Bernster's case it was also a truly political movement (a mini socialist revolution truth be told) - people who commit to a movement like that might have a hard time switching to an overstuffed bloviating pantsuit that has been running one step ahead of sure prosecution for nigh on 4 decades.
I predict that the confluence of BLM and their recent turn towards outright violence, and the surprising success and outrageous impacts of the radical agenda of the current administration, coupled with instability around the world and the threat of radical islamic terrorism and a laser focus on the corruption and scandal of the Clinton Family Crime Foundation will ultimately put Trump in the White House, but only if real voters can overcome the margin of cheating.
