A lot of respect for Charles Barkley, we need people like this to step up and say these things. These days when you are upsetting the left and the right, you are probably spot on. He has been criticized all around for saying this.
Barkley: There’s a lot of people at fault. The cops have made some mistakes. Black people have made some mistakes. Until we stop…We have to sit back and be honest with each other. The cops have made some mistakes. That don’t give us the right to riot and shoot cops. We need the cops, especially in the black community. We as black people, we’ve got to do better. We never get mad when black people kill each other, which that always has bothered me. It’s always bothered me. And then, somebody is gonna scream like, ‘Well, you can’t change the subject.’ Well, first of all, I’ve never changed the subject. I’ve always said that, ‘We as black people, if you want respect, you have to give each other respect.’ You can’t demand respect from white people and the cops if we don’t respect each other.

Good for him for acknowledging that the problem is far more complex than what most people are making it seem. He's going against the narrative, though, and that's going to be a problem for him. He's going to face a lot of criticism for making those comments. He can handle it, though.

That sentiment was expressed by the black lady checking me out of the hotel last week. We had a chance to talk for a bit and she said that almost verbatim.

You mean an old white guy and a black lady said the same thing? How radical are we all getting....

I didn't realize until now that Barkley was white. Damned old eyes playing tricks on me again.

Barkley lacks credibility amongst THINKING Black people.

Barkley lacks credibility amongst THINKING Black people.
Is that racist? I'm so confused... :o
-
Newsflash: Black people are not a monolithic group of automatons that all think and do the same things.
In my circles, Mr. Barkley is respected as an athlete, but that does not carry over to any credibility as a voice for black people. Quite the contrary, his life choices run counter to our values and ergo his lack of credibility.
-
Barkley lacks credibility amongst THINKING Black people.
Why, because he's off the plantation? Is he an Uncle Tom, like other intelligent blacks like Clarence Thomas, Condi Rice, Deroy Murdock and others who have been called precisely that?
What did Barkley say that hurt his credibility?
-
How do you feel about Ward Connerly? Tim Scott?

No, but the ones that don't toe the line of Black Liberation Theology or go against the narrative set forth by race hustlers like Sharpton, Jackson, and Farrakhan are rejected by vast swaths of the black community because they don't buy into the hyperbolic rhetoric.

Let me quote you:
I'll say it again: I'm a statistical anomaly. The only thing I want to tear down are barriers to success. That's what we all should be focused on. Those that oppose are the "Oppressors". We can call them by whatever other name (and yes they come in multiple hues).
Charles Barkley is unquestionably successful. He's a statistical anomaly, if you will (and you did!). Shouldn't you be focused on his success and tearing down barriers thereof, instead of deriding him as an unthinking black man?

"our values".... so, Charles Barkley isn't a voice for black people... but you are?

His fame and fortune come from Basketball.

We can disagree without being opposed.

My question stands. (And yes, they came from, but extended beyond, basketball).

I see no problem with that. He had a skill and talent, worked hard to develop and use that, and with a little luck reaps the rewards. That's capitalism and the American Way.

Barkley lacks credibility amongst THINKING Black people.
From what I see, Barkley appears to be a thinking man. It is probably unfortunate that you do not think what he says is rational. Is it be ause of the message or the messenger?

The message is devoid of independent thought. It's the same message from the era of the integrationists.
-

"Integrationist" is now a pejorative? Does the black community now want segregation?

Oh really? So segregation is a good thing now?
-

Not Segregation; but I believe that Integration was a mistake. Separation is what is the proper prescription. What you see now in the country, the unrest can be solved by separating (for all that want to do so) in a sovereign territory. Then those that are left behind can be treated however President Trump wants.

Point #4. We want our people in America whose parents or grandparents were descendants from slaves, to be allowed to establish a separate state or territory of their own–either on this continent or elsewhere. We believe that our former slave masters are obligated to provide such land and that the area must be fertile and minerally rich. We believe that our former slave masters are obligated to maintain and supply our needs in this separate territory for the next 20 to 25 years–until we are able to produce and supply our own needs.
Since we cannot get along with them in peace and equality, after giving them 400 years of our sweat and blood and receiving in return some of the worst treatment human beings have ever experienced, we believe our contributions to this land and the suffering forced upon us by white America, justifies our demand for complete separation in a state or territory of our own.

I'm not even going to get into the merits of this idea. There is absolutely no chance of it happening, along with many other things at that link. So I suggest we carry on with proposed solutions that are at least fathomable, much less obtainable.
-

That idea is completely without merit.

Thanks for getting into it. ;D

He said that Separation is the "Only and Best Solution" to the problems between the races. Out of the many permutations of solutions proposed and tried, none of them have worked either. Anyone who wants to continue trying to ice skate uphill is welcome to try. I was taught do something different if you want a different result, otherwise you're considered insane.
-
Here is something different (which has had some success): don't teach the children to hate others.
Eventually, today's youth will replace us.
If we continue to teach today's youth to hate others that aren't the same as us, what do you think will happen?
-
Imagine the storm of protests that would happen if a bunch of white guys said we should separate "whites" from "blacks"....
Millions would label them as racists.
But "minister" F gets a pass.
hmmmmmmmm

Yes, they pretty much are. They vote singularly for black and Democrat candidates purely because of RACIAL ISSUES.

Maybe you have Brain Lock (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFzDaBzBlL0) and need a new way of thinking.

I have to admit, a separate and sovereign African American nation on North America contiguous with the United States is an out-of-the box solution to America's race problems. I suspect strongly that it would exacerbate the socioeconomic problems of the African American communities. Liberia never really took off, after all.

But but but...would that mean we need a new and different wall??

All of the "modern" social programs from the 60's beyond were aiming to do just that. Problem is that they've done squat to affect the mindset of policy makers. It's not the common White Folk that's the problem and that's the distinction.

The difference is:
Separation advocated by the underclass is a choice not a situation forced upon them. And that's why it's a different tone. IMO, it would be good for both. The Kerner Commission's report already said that there are "Two Americas". The problem is the lack of self-determinism and sovereignty in one of them.
-

No argument against that. It's a result of Political Illiteracy, what can I say???

A model for success already exists in the Nation of Islam. We have our own laws and rules of conduct. There is no gun violence of Muslim-Muslim (no observance of 2A). I've witnessed an argument from once or twice, but that's it!

I've seen that video before. I think I have it posted on FB somewhere. Good one!

There are many F500 corporations that are still in existence today that owe their vast fortunes to the slave trade.

by the same logic, you owe (no pun) your fortune to the slave trade too.

Really. Which ones? And please tell me how you've bifurcated the "vast fortunes" that were allegedly generated by the slave trade, and what the companies have done to grow their value over the last 151 years.
The fact is that your movement has been looking for deep pockets from which to extort money and the Fortune 500 seems ripe for the picking.

AIG and Lehman Bros off the top of my head. And I haven't bi fur anything ... (Is your auto correct okay?).
So you think it's okay to get away with human trafficking? Noted.

Chalotte, NC - The most tightly integrated school district in the country has consistently had the lowest incident of racial violence. That lasted until they decided to move to "neighborhood" schools, which is the euphamism for segregation. Integration works.
If you want the success that white peopel have then you need to be standing shoulder to shouldr with us to get it. The success is not going to happen if you are holdong yourself apart.

But the Nation of Islam isn't all black people, it isn't even a majority. Moreover, if the Nation of Islam really wants their own little land they can move to the desert or to Upstate New York or the Interior of Maine, somewhere with minimal population density. Do the Mormon thing.
-
I was just reading the Wikipedia page for the Nation of Islam. I came across this:
Since 2010, under Farrakhan, members have been strongly encouraged to study Dianetics, and the Nation claims it has trained 1055 auditors.[10]
Having read that, I find it difficult to acknowledge any credibility in the group or its leader. My hometown is the spiritual headquarters for Scientology, and I know what an absolute farce the entire thing is.
