It would be a help, but the biggest thing is education and awareness," Null said, noting his analysis shows about 30 percent of the deaths are the result of kids getting into unlocked cars on their own.
Having small ones myself I breathe much easier knowing that my 3-1/2 year old can now open the car doors himself to get out. We got him a new car seat and he can't yet extricate himself from it. I'm mostly thinking of the scenario where after a vehicular accident, he may need to get out to save his own life if his parents are incapacitated.
When I give a pre-flight passenger briefing, I tell my passengers that in the event of a forced landing, their first and only job is to save their own life. I may stay behind securing the aircraft from further risk to life and limb (fuel and master off) and THEN getting myself out. Don't lose your life trying to be a hero. Meet me 30 feet aft of the tail portion of the aircraft. I have the same mentality when driving but almost never give a briefing. I may reconsider this practice.
