Who would take this challenge with me?

There are really two aspects within genetics one of which this encompasses.  There are hypervariable spots in genome called short tandem repeats, STRs, or microsatellites.  They vary in length from person to person.  You share more uncommon with your closest relatives, but we all share some in common with our distant relatives as well.  This allows very accurate identification of individuals, for example in forensic genetics, which is used to determine the culprits of crimes.  Or paternity.

This also allows such markers to be used to trace ancestry.  Some combinations of markers are indicative of region or even nation of origin.  You can use a similar science to determine the breed composition of your dog or cat.  The principles are identical, as is the technology.

Keep in mind that we are all related as some level.  it is very clear that humans went through a population crisis about 200,000 years ago, and that we are all of us descend from a small number of individuals.  All of us.

This has little to do with what we look or act like.  That in part is determined by genes.  Those are are the units of information that make your hair blond or brown or your skin black.  Genes can be physically linked to these markers, but very few are.  And of course, genes are only one component of who you are, since humans are regulative in their development, we are all of us profoundly affected by our surroundings and those around us.

Biologically speaking, the things we fight over are trivial indeed.

And then there's the fact that.......

And then there's the fact that.......People move around.

Which is why genetic analysis can trace origins.  People may move, but they carry their genes with them.

I read a somewhat more interesting article the other day.  As I said, some of these hyper variable spots can be physically linked to genes, like those for eye color.  Thus certain makers should correspond to blue eyes, others brown and so on.  As a result there are groups trying to recreate the appearance of individuals via this sort of marker analysis.  Right now if a DNA profile is discovered at the scene of a crime, it can be put into a database.  If the culprit has been previously arrested that profile can be sued to link the culprit with the crime. But if the culprit has not had any shaves with the law they won't be in the relevant databases.  With the new analysis about which I was reading the DNA profile itself may be able to give a relatively accurate description of the culprit.  What you look like is largely in your genes.

My point about people moving around is that unless you round up all of a certain tribe or genotype and move them together, the mapping of humans to geography is speculative or agenda based.  Cultural Anthropologists have been busy in this regard.

An utterly simplistic analysis.  While some folks migrate lots stay put.  Allele frequencies are what they are.
