Title: "Friendly reminders"
Post by: Bob Noel on December 21, 2016, 08:57:17 AM
Seems that's popular to send people a "friendly reminder" for this or that.  What's up with that?

What an odd phrase.  There are ways present a reminder that will make it obvious that it is more a warning than a "friendly reminder"

Passive aggression.

When I was working overseas I use to laugh at the memos the company would put out.  Each and every one had the heading "For Your Strict Compliance!"

 Obviously not a friendly reminder.

Does this board have an ignore function?
I am sick of Bryan with a "Y" and his never ending ding-dong post.

The ding dong doesn't bother me. I just skip it. I have an aversion to the ignore function. Ignore is for snowflakes.

It reminds me of third grade.  Doesn't bother me.

Third grade would be quit advanced for Bryan.

Well, skipping is a form of ignore.  Just saying.

The value of the ignore function for that particular one-trick pony is not wasting screen real estate on the same stupid video in every f'n post.

Meh. I agree with whoever said the ignore function is for snowflakes.

Skipping is a form of skipping. The ignore function is the snowflake button.

That's pure bullshit.  Desiring to not hear something as inane and unimportant as that Ding Dong has nothing to do with safe spaces or snow flakes.

I have never put a liberal that I think speaks idiocy and spreads a dangerous philosophy on ignore because what they say may hold some importance.  But that ding-a-ling has nothing to offer other than irritation for irritation's sake.

He or she has 7 total posts (edit: meaning 7 total posts ever in the history of the site). It takes no effort to skip the posts. Plus, that pic is kinda' funny. I'll make you deal: if you never ignore someone who makes real posts, I won't consider the ignore button a snowflake button for you.  :)

you ignore crap your way, I'll do it my way.

One thing I miss about usenet is the flexibility of the filtering rules (including filtering on content of the post).

It's a deal :)

Someone recently called this place an echo chamber, and he was right.  But that isn't why I come here.  I come here to hear opinions from people like you, Mark, and even on occasion, Witmo.  It helps me understand how my in-laws think.

But as you said, Ding Dong has only posted 7 times so far, so I haven't had the motivation to put him on ignore; yet.  It was mildly funny the first time or two.  But it is irritating, which I guess is his goal.  It reminds me of kids in a car saying "are we there yet".  After a while, you just want to turn it off.

I'm with Joe on it was almost funny the first time.  I'm waiting for the game to be upped, doubt it will happen.  As far as irritating, it's a post on a forum, I just skip over it, it takes about 2 seconds.
