Title: Surcharges to pay for minimum wages
Post by: bflynn on March 10, 2017, 05:35:25 AM
Quote
Restaurant diners are footing the bill for rising minimum wages.

In lieu of steep menu price increases, many independent and regional chain restaurants in states including Arizona, California, Colorado and New York are adding surcharges of 3% to 4% to help offset rising labor costs. Industry analysts expect the practice to become widespread as more cities and states increase minimum wages

Where did I hear that this was going to happen?  Oh, right here.  In fact, most of us probably said that it was going to happen.

Told you so.

Then there's this:

Who needs to pay a human $15/hour when a robot will do it for free? I realize it's not completely free if you factor in purchase/installation/maintenance costs.

Democrats/Liberals/Progressives never think beyond the surface of an issue.  Yes, higher wages for people, especially, lower income people sounds GREAT!  Who doesn't want that.  However, when wage increases are not earned due to increased skill levels, education, or experience, the market reacts by just passing through the higher cost as their is no increase in value to the consumer, or mitigating the cost through other means like efficiencies, or new methods like robots.  The net effect is the loss of jobs, or loss of profitability, and the potential loss of the business all together.  These businesses, if the can not adapt will move, or close, leaving the employees jobless.

Entry level jobs were never considered to be a "living wage", or a job to support a family by themselves.  They are starter jobs, or adjunct jobs.

The economic naivety of liberals always amazes me.
These are the same people who SWEAR that tax cuts result in lower tax revenue no matter how many times you prove them wrong.
Their lack of intelligence and vision follows them like stink on a skunk.

For the rank and file liberal/progressives, and low information types it all sounds good, and they think it either altruistic, or they will personally benefit economically.  However, the politicians, and their elite cronies know better.  It is purposeful, and misleading pandering for more government involvement, and control of our lives.  They know that it doesn't make sense, but push these whacko policies anyway.

For instance, Philly Mayor Kenney commented on the new Soda (all sweet drinks, diet, juices etc) TAX he and city council enacted, that the evil corporations (Pepsi, Coke, etc) were just using this as an excuse for more evil profits by laying off people.  Well, demand is down as people are going outside the city to buy soft drinks, so the distributors don't need all the drivers, and other support folks.  The City sold BONDS on the projected income of the new tax so they could get the money up front.  To heck what the tax actually brings in.  More DEFICIT SPENDING, and fiscal MALFEASANCE.
