Members of the Donald Trump transition team, possibly including Trump himself, were under U.S. government surveillance following November’s presidential election, House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) told reporters Wednesday.
Nunes said the monitoring appeared to be done legally as a result of what's called "incidental collection," but said he was concerned because it was not related to the FBI’s investigation into Russia’s meddling in the election and was widely disseminated across the intelligence community.
“I have seen intelligence reports that clearly show that the president-elect and his team were, I guess, at least monitored,” Nunes told reporters. “It looks to me like it was all legally collected, but it was essentially a lot of information on the president-elect and his transition team and what they were doing.”

The FBI is not cooperating with the House of Representatives' investigation into the NSA's surveillance of the Trump campaign during the 2016 election, the chairman of the U.S. House Permanent Select Committee, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), said today.
During an explosive press conference outside the White House, Nunes told reporters that communications from the Trump team were picked up and disseminated within the government during the 2016 campaign. Nunes said sources within the intelligence community presented him with the information. He spoke to the press after briefing the administration.
"We don’t actually know yet officially what happened to General Flynn," Nunes said of how communications from Gen. Flynn's calls were leaked to the press. "We just know that his name leaked out but we don't know how it was picked up yet. That was one of the things that we asked for in the March 15th letter, was for the NSA, CIA, and FBI to get us all the unmasking that was done."
"And I'll tell you, NSA is being cooperative," Nunes continued, "but so far the FBI has not told us whether or not they’re going to respond to our March 15th letter, which is now a couple of weeks old.”
Nunes also reported that as of now, he "cannot rule out" President Obama ordering the surveillance.

It is SO CONVENIENT that Comey is refusing to cooperate where this is concerned since he was so key in brow beating the Ken Starr investigation of Hilary Clinton's criminal enterprise Whitewater, introduced electing not to bring charges.
He seems to have a habit of running interference for the criminal democrats.

The security state has been metastasizing out of control for some time now. About time folks woke up to it.

Absolutely!!! The NSA, FBI, CIA, BATF, and the Bush (with help from the Republicans and Democrats in Congress) Dept of Homeland Security, plus a plethora of other agencies we know about, and DON'T know about is taking away our privacy, and freedom. Technology has taken surveillance, and illegal intrusion to a whole new level.

On this we agree entirely. These folks have no business spying on Americans.

Wasn't one of the last things Obama did was make it so the 16 agencies could share all of this info?

I thought one of the larger purposes of DHS was to get all the underlying agencies to talk, and play nice. The DHS is just another large, government bureaucracy that is unnecessary, way too costly, and way to intrusive, especially the TSA.

DHS came out of post-9/11/01 concern that our intelligence agencies weren't permitted to share information. So instead of just allowing information to be shared, George Bush and Congress stupidly created a whole new domestic police force, which if you look at the hardware that those people try to use to impress us at Oshkosh, with the pilots with their thigh holsters and otherwise 100% military hardware, looks much more like the domestic standing army that the founders warned us about.
I despise the government building at AirVenture. Those people disgust me.
James Madison warned that "A standing military force, with an overgrown Executive will not long be safe companions to liberty."
Think about that prescient quote next time you get felt up at the airport by power-tripping GED dropouts in uniform.

Government, and politicians knee jerk reaction is to DO SOMETHING. Often it is more harm than good, like what we have with the DHS. Yes, it is EXACTLY a standing Army, just like we were supposed to avoid. We've talked about the militarization of police at all levels in general. DHS are some of the worst offenders. We now have state police checkpoints for things like expired inspection stickers with TSA, and/or DHS accompanying them. Several years ago TSA was moved from the FAA to DHS, so I don't know why they both are there.

Best thing Congress could do is repeal the Patriot act. Damn thing is Orwellian.
