18 trillion in debt, soon to be 20. Unfunded liability for social security and medicare, another 50 trillion or more depending on whose numbers you believe.
What am I missing? How is this so okay that the government virtually ignores it?
Thank you.

Old enough that I may not be around when this baby tanks for good.

The ONLY THING that matters to politturds is that next election in 2, 4, or 6 years.

Trillion Becky, it's trillion.

Because it's not a "real" number to them. They may as well be talking in bitcoin currency or "quan."
It will only matter to them when the People force them to balance the budget. The only way THAT will happen is a balanced budget amendment that originates from a Convention of the States.

OPM. ironically, OPM spelled out loud is very similar to opium. Very very addictive.

It's because we've become addicted to our lifestyle, which is quickly eroding. It is unsustainable. If the stock markets continue to meltdown, and they will, 401K's will be gone, and we will have a generation on assistance. More debt?

It's not their money and it's not their debt. Unlike a hired management professional, there is no consequence for mismanagement and there is no personal liability should things go wrong. They sleep just fine.
Basically, the folks that run the country and the "economists" that advise them, run with the idea that the country is "too big to fail" and so far they are correct. What keeps us afloat is the mere fact that the rest of the world is worse off.

Another spot on post. Totally agree. There is no consequences for their mismanagement. I would call it malfeasance. What recourse do we have?

It's worse than no consequence, we actually reward them - like Oliver Twist we go back and ask "Please sir, can we have some more?". We keep electing them, keep empowering them to rip us off, and then put them back in, again and again.
It's like battered spouse syndrome on a national level- but who will take care of me if I leave?
As someone who finally left the Republican party after its' repeated face-doorknob attacks on me and my belief system, I can say we can all do better but the current single power structure masquerading as a 2-party system has to be demolished in order for that to happen. Here is a hint, Sanders and Trump represent the wrecking ball - to-date the RNC/DNC have been able to control the crane operator such that the wrecking ball was never even lifted off the ground, they might not be able to stop it this time.

Gimp, its getting to that point. We are going to go either way this time. Either an attempt to bring this country back to what it truly means, or a continuation of the Obama march towards fasco-communism where PC rules, and we fear our own government, media, and educational systems. This is truly the tipping point. Interesting times my friends. Interesting times.
To me Hillary, and Bernie are the same. One is an old male communist/totalitarian, the other an old female communist/totalitarian.

As I asked Kristin in a different thread, who, among the 3 dems and 10 or so Repubs do you believe would faithfully:
"... the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
There is only ONE Constitutionalist running. Sad, but true.
