Title: DJIA 30k? Where are we going with the Dow

I'm all for a hot market, but man - the last 6 months have been too blistering. I'm concerned there is a serious correction coming soon with profit taking that could really put a dent in all the up-trends. I mean, this is an industrials average. Yeah, sure I know that not all of them are industrial in the conventional sense, but still - these represent the working life of the US today. There are predictions of Dow at 30,000 by the time Trump leaves office. I don't see it, but hoping we remain the place for people to invest. Surely there is a lot of investment from foreign markets as much as people hate Trump personally, they seem to understand he will protect the US market.

I might have to jump back in and see what I can do. Or - maybe I'll just go to the track and play the ponies. Same kind of wagering.

As someone who has training in this, don't jump in and out and try to time it.

A rise to 3000 over the next 7 years would be the same that it's been doing the past 7 years.  There will be ups and downs, maybe a big down, but long term it is mathematically proven that you wast more money with active trading than with holding.  Don't ask me how it works, that was 10 years ago, but I saw the proof and worked numbers myself.  You have to get lucky to make money by timing the market.

Totally out at this point, but it is fun to watch.  Had someone tell me on another board that they would get excited if the S&P hits 2,500.  Almost there.

I think you missed a zero in there, but we got what you meant. I'm a long, long, long term investor. Most of my wealth is tied up in actual real estate, or REITs which have very long maturity. I'm getting up in years, but have plenty of long coverage, so I might like to mess around with $100k or so, just to see if I could pick some movers. I got on the back side of Cat when it tanked, and did a nice option on them. It wasn't all  luck as I had been watching their labor fight for a while. Apple just released it's numbers and they were very good. However, as I noted in another thread, I'm thinking I might short Apple soon as they just poked their finger in the eyes of every Chinese buyer out there. I'm trying to find out if there are other VPN providers for the Apple product that can be downloaded outside the Apple store. So far, nada, but I don't know a lot about Apple store. We'll see how it goes.
