Since Mueller's witch hunt is going nowhere, and no it's been discovered that the DNC hack was done from within, looks like the Alt Left progressives will have to find another tactic.
BTW, here's Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals". See how many you recognize from the previous 9 months:

"Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it." Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.

Saul Alinsky, and Cloward Piven are very accurate depictions of what we are seeing. The false "Russia" story didn't work. They didn't have facts, evidence, nor truth on their side. People got tired of hearing the same old baseless accusations. So they tie Trump to the Neo Nazis, and KKK because he didn't come out against them fast enough. All we hear from the media now is how Trump is a RACIST!!!
There were many economic reasons for the Civil War, only one of which is slavery. I do believe the Feds wanted to make the South succumb and strike a huge blow to state's rights. They succeeded. The statues that are being torn down, and removed are an attempt by the Liberal/Progressives to re-write history, and wield power over those in which they disagree. This is a statement of POWER over free expression, and power over our history. We need to fight back. How? Keep electing non-establishment candidates.
My question is why now? Why remove statues that are over 100 years old in many cases? I think I know the answer, but would like other's perspective.

They are being directed by the George Soros crowd and other subversive progressive organizations. They don't have a clue as to why, hell most of them aren't even aware of civil war history. The game plan is disrupt and create chaos, that's the ultimate goal.
I've had many conversations recently about civil war history and it's astounding how little most people know about it, especially the younger generation. All they know is "slavery" and that people from the south are evil and treasonous.
I tell them if they truly want to end symbols of hate, racism and bigotry start with the KKK which is a left wing hate group. They immediately try to tell me "the KKK is associated with the republicans!" to which I explain to them "no, the KKK was started by the democrats in opposition to freeing slaves and granting blacks rights". Then I proceed to tell them "Look, the conservative republicans stand for the constitution, can you please show me how the KKK also defends the constitution?"..........(Deer in the head light look)
Then I tell them how the democrats have fought against black rights from reconstruction all the way through the 1960's. And of course back that up with how it was the conservative republicans who fought and defended the rights of blacks.
So let's take down those symbols of hate and bigotry. Let's start with the DNC, their name needs to be changed and all references changed. All statues of Woodrow Wilson need to come down as well as FDR. FDR? Yep, remember it was FDR who created the internment camps in WW2 where thousands of japanese american citizens were imprisoned because of their race. Also, let's take down all statues of Robert Byrd, the Senator who was a KKK member and led the longest filibuster against civil rights. How about Sen Fullbright and Senator Al Gore Sr, also very opposed to civil rights and fought against them.
Let's not forget Bill and Hillary's use of the confederate flag used in their campaigns to get votes in the south. And how about George Wallace, Gov of Alabama (D) ? Anyone care to read his history?
Now you see why the academics don't want history taught in schools and want it rewritten. If you want to see full blown racial discrimination, hate and bigotry look no further than the democrat party. They own it.

Because for the past eight years they were way too busy completely changing our culture and limiting our liberty to worry about things like statues. Plus, the Civil War is obviously Trump's fault. Duh.

Agreed. It is all about linking Trump with anything RACIST. They are associating him with the KKK, and Neo Nazis. I don't think it is working though. Maybe they will go back to Russia, or make something up even more ridiculous.

Sorry. I was playing an uninformed progressive, like the ones that destroyed the peace statue and attacked a completely innocent man because they 'thought' the man was a nazi because he has short hair and that the statue resembled a confederate memorial.
