Thought provoking op-ed from a local here:
“Some 71% said military officers put the interests of the country ahead of their own interests, while just 12% thought the same about members of Congress. “
A democracy that gives rise to those sorts of sentiments is a democracy that’s in trouble.

Thought provoking op-ed from a local here:
It's true, but not much any individual can do about it. Sure, we can vote the bums out, but there are just a whole line of new bums in the waiting. Nothing really changes. There will be no revolution this election cycle no matter who wins what.
I hate to go all Godwin on the thread, but it's true. The only way for there to be a political revolution in this country now at this point is to do as Hitler did. He took over a political party and build widespread popular support for that party. Then that party had candidates that ran for as many seats in the Parliament as it could as well as Hitler for Chancellor. His party won a majority in Parliament and he won the Chancellor's seat. On day one he could have it his way. He did that in large part by popular support. (There was also a lot of violence and intimidation that contributed and I am not suggesting that strategy for the US at all)
Hitler was a very charismatic character once on the pulpit and he wrote a compelling book. He got people to come to support him and his party over the others. He was the right guy at the right time to build a tidal swell of support and energy to take over the country. However it was dire times in the Weimar Republic and America is no where near that bad off now.
Right now I see no politician and no party that can do what the National Socialists did in Germany here in the US. Maybe when things get bad enough. We are not there now, but maybe soon...
