Where’s our Bonanza man? Missing him ... and his wife is a strong liberal, so I’m a little worried ...

Last we heard from him he was on a trip with his airplane.

He posted he'd be gone for a bit on a trip.

I'm back for now

We went to West Virginia for several days and hiked about a dozen trails.  Lewisburg WV is a small town but it has some surprisingly good restaurants.  And the scenery was tremendous.  And I had some of the best "store bought" martinis I have had anywhere.

Then we flew to Mallard's Landing (Air park south of Atlanta) to visit some friends for a few days.

Then on to Panama City where my sister and BIL recently built a new house on the water and just moved in.  Today they sent me a text of a 5 day forecast of a hurricane that will be giving them a house warming party in a few days.

Then yesterday, we flew to St. Simons Island to have lunch those same friends from Mallards Landing at the King and Prince resort.

Then we got home last night around sunset and had some wonderful homemade martinis.  Perfect ending to a great trip. The Bonanza performed flawlessly.  I love flying over I-95 at over 200 mph.  I don't get passed by cars like I occasionally used to in the C-172.

It's good to be home, but I am now trying to figure out what our next trip will be.

Nice trip!  I've been to St. Simon's Island in the Tiger.  Never hit 200 MPH even with a tail wind.  Came close a few times.  :)

My friend just lost this V35B to a hangar fire.  :(  He is going to get an A36 I think.

I occasionally fantasize about getting an A36 because some of them come with air conditioning.  If it only had a V-Tail, then it would be perfect.

I said mph because it sounds better than equivalent knots.  We topped out at around 186 kts (214 mph). but that was with about a 15kt tail wind at 8,000 ft.

V tails are one of the sexiest planes in the sky.  I am lobbying my friend to get another one, but for some reason he thinks he needs six seats now.  He really doesn't.

Even if he only "needs" four seats, an A36 might be the way to go.  My only problem with V-Tails is that they have an aft center of gravity and are easily put out of balance with big rear pax or a lot of cargo.  They are great 3 seaters though.  Since it is usually just my wife and me, we can load up a lot of luggage for long trips.  We can put two small pax in the back, but then little to no luggage, and we might have to shed some fuel.  But even shedding fuel pushes the CoG aft.

Yes, the W&B is the issue, and he doesn't have tip tanks either.  Still, it is usually just him and his wife.

Point of order. The Mooney crowd disagrees.  ;D

I'd take an M20J/201 any day of the week!

Mooney has the fastest single engine piston aircraft on the market. This must be why you're disagreeing with me.  ;D

My Mooney is not the newest one and thus, it's slower. It's still a Mooney.

But the claim wasn't that it is the fastest.  The claim was that the V-Tail is the sexiest.

You Bo fan boys should check this out. I bookmarked it because it has some fantastic pics of the 2012 Bonanzas to OSH, with lots of V-tail pics.

The two people I know who moved up to A36 both had nothing good to say about them compared to an S35 or V35. Both of them sold the A36 and went back to the V tails. Neither had AC, so I could see how that would help, but the negatives far outweighed the positives, including the big price jump.

Thanks for that testimonial.  It might save me a $100 grand or so.

My friend who just lost his beautiful V35B was talking about getting an A36 prior to the recent hangar fire.  I've been trying to talk him out of it, and told him just to get another V-Tail.  It's just him, and his wife, no kids, so I don't know why he thinks he needs the extra seats.  Hey, his money.

Not to say the A36 is a bad plane, but for those coming from a V tail - I guess weigh the changes and cost carefully.

V-tails are indeed the sexiest aircraft.  I didn't get the Mooney because it was sexy.  I got it because it was fast, and for a complex aircraft really simple with manual gear and hydraulic flaps.  Less stuff to break.  That, and tiny little me fits in a Mooney just fine.
