Title: Obama proposes $10/barrel oil tax
Post by: Mr Pou on February 05, 2016, 07:29:12 AM
So, Joe Lunchbucket may not enjoy the recent windfall of lower gas/energy prices, it looks like Obama just has to take some of that for the government.

Grrrrr.  >:(

Yeah, better the government to have that money than for folks to save, pay down dept, or maybe even spend some to spur the economy.

And the laugher, this is another Dem regressive tax, one that will hurt the very people the Dems purport to champion.

Yes, consumers will be paying this regressive tax.  It will hurt the poor, and middle income earners the worst.  It is a really bad idea, and if the Republicans don't fight this then I am giving up on them.  I don't give a flying efff about carbon emissions.  This is just another government money grab.

Wonder if he'll push this through using executive order?

Oh wait, he won't have to!  Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell will push it through for him.

A year or so ago, a new gasoline tax was passed here in PA.  It was co-sponsored by my state senator, a REPUBLICAN, and signed into law by the Governor who at the time was a REPUBLICAN.  It added another $.30/gallon to the cost of gas.  They said it was to fix roads and bridges.  Well what happened to all the money already earmarked for roads, and bridges?  Where did that go?  In reality the additional funds are going to public transportation unions, and "green" buses.

And don't forget the think tanks that will hit up the government for mass transit grants and studies, etc. Just a continuation of the gravy train for the connected.

Complete and utter economic ignorance. Unfortunately that is nothing new for the Marxist in Chief and his Politburo.

Oil is currently trading at around $35/barrel, this is a NEW 30% tax that would directly impact the poorest the most since it will be passed on in more than one way - not only will everyone who drives pay more at the pump, shipping will cost more and we have seen those costs passed on into the goods sold, like food, clothes, etc.

And for more 'green' bullshit to boot, which is code word for repayment to campaign contributors.

It is sickening how the system is currently rigged.

And much of the populace is ignorant about who will pay this tax.  Not the "evil" oil companies.  Remember when Hillary wanted a "Windfall Profits Tax" for oil companies when oil was $100/barrel?  Well, how about now when their profits are down?  Should they get a government subsidy?

Let's see... which does Obama care about more? Strong economy and workers with money in their pockets, or fighting global warming? Now we see his priority.

Of course he is the decider and it is his right as Lord God King Boofu. It's all in the nuevo constitution-

Article 1, Section 8

Quote
The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts, Coerce, Manipulate, Generally Correct the people's bad behavior and Maybe provide for the common Defence[note 1] and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

Well, it is an election year. Time to pander for votes. Obama can chuck this out there and then Clinton and Sanders can trip over each other saying what a great idea it is to get the green voters in line. Environmentalists think this is a fantastic idea and these folks go to the polls and vote every single time. The lower class working folks that this will hurt don't vote than much.

Of course the Republican candidates will come out and say it's a terrible idea and further reinforce the image that republicans don't care about the environment and only care about big business. At least that's the desired result. I think there are a lot moderate voters that aren't attached to either party per say, that are quite enjoying the low gas prices. It may backfire on them in November. We shall see.

Obama is set to propose the tax when he reveals his budget next week, as part of an effort to reduce carbon emissions and generate billions of dollars for mass-transit investments and self-driving vehicles. The new tax would be phased in over five years, and would apply to both domestic and imported oil.

So, force the evil, bad oil companies to become tax collectors, then give the money to Google, now the wealthiest company on the planet to help them make self driving cars.  :o  ???  How the fuck does a self driving car save the planet??? Why does Google and other companies fiddling around with self driving cars need any tax payer help???

The great thing about this tax is, it's going to ease in real slow so we won't notice and then when oil prices rebound up to where they should be when the Saudis realize they can't give it away anymore... in oh say, five years from now, this tax can stay forever!! $6-$7 a gallon gas prices here we come!

The basic Democrat playbook-

  • Apply for EU membership.
  • Have the UN take over the new larger EU.
  • Make everything fair for everyone everywhere in the world.

I was wondering the same thing about this self- driving bullshit. WTF?

Google, Yahoo, MSN, Oracle, most of Wall Street...  All far left, progressive CRONIES.  Meanwhile the EPA raids Gibson guitar for foreign wood.  We are screwed.

Government "leaders" are probably 90% lawyers/PoliSci majors. They took the bare minimum STEM classes. They were taught to regurgitate what their formerly-closeted Communist profs told them. Many of those on the Left stopped growing intellectually and emotionally at age 12.    End result is what we see now.

It's a throw-away to appeal to the idiot young Millennials who think it's a big hassle (read 'responsibility') to learn how to drive, buy their own cars and pay for their own insurance, fuel, and maintenance. Product of Soccermomery (I just invented that term).

But wait, they wear skinny jeans, and go to Starbucks.  They'd probably pee themselves if I took them to my gun club, and gave them a .45.  LOL.

Soccermomery is spot on BTW.

And Obama has said many times $6 gas would be good for the country.

Yes he has.  He realizes that less expensive energy will help the economy, and his purposeful goal is to bring us down a few notches.  The entire carbon thing is a ruse.  He wants higher energy prices to make people less prosperous.

I think so too. Makes it sound all "21st Century" and cutting edge high tech. BTW, love the term "Soccoermomery". Maybe the problem with the Millennials stems from the Mini Van. It is much more like riding public transit then the station wagons I grew up with. Replace Mom with a bus driver and it really does feel the same. Damn you Lee Iacocca!!! You ruined a generation!  LOL!  ;D

And millions upon millions have said many times that he should quit his job and disappear... or worse.
