Denver fans destroy property. 12 arrests. No one was called a thug

I'll call them "Thugs". There, happy?
I also called folks in Calgary who destroyed property during a Flames playoff run thugs. And thanks to Vancouver fans after they lost in the Stanley Cup finals, I find the term "Cannuck" to be insulting, and I call them thugs as well.
In the interest of completeness, I also call my primary strategy in the board game "RISK" my "Roving Band of Thugs"
-
Heck, I'll call Chris Christie a thug.
-
I think they are assholes, but thugs fits too.

no one was called a thug, that you know about....

The mantra of the left is that the term "Thug" is code for black person, and accusation for racist. It's old and tired. ::)

The "code" is that the terms is only applied to black people. But white people doing the same thing gets a "kinder, gentler" term.
Its relevance is Tongue-In-Cheek considering that Cam Newton was accused of Thuggery leading up to SB50.

Please investigate the origin of the term "Thug". Also, Italians, Irish, and others were called Thugs in America well before Blacks.

What "kinder, gentler" term would that be?
noun
1. a cruel or vicious ruffian, robber, or murderer.
That doesn't seem to imply any sort of racial bias.
-
Typically you see something like "over exuberant party goers".
While the dictionary gives one definition, the way it is applied has not been equally distributed in MSM.

typically *you* see racism everywhere.

I guess Pogo was right:
"When you are up to your ass in alligators, it it hard to see that the problem is the draining of the swamp". Or something like that.

I wouldn't call any QB a thug, because they're, well, a QB. I would call Newton a petulant man-child douche bag, but not a thug.

The idea that "nobody" uses the term thug when describing anyone but blacks is nonsense. Quite often law enforcement officers are referred to as thugs, thuggish, and other far uglier terms. The entire New Orleans Saints football club was accused to being thugs when they conspired to pay bounties for injuring other players. Claiming thugs for your skin color only is the type of whining that causes people to turn away from any relevant points the whiner is trying to make.

Then using your logic I can use the "N word" to refer to anyone of any race when I tell a story. The story listeners will all know who I am referring to in the story.

No, we all know who is being spoke about when the term wigger is used.

Wait, nobody has made a man made global warming comment yet. ;D

If I read a story about someone beaten up by thugs, it imparts no information about the race of said thugs.

How about 'beaten up by thugs in an urban community.'? Clear as mud?

Maybe "beaten up by thugs of the negro persuasion in an urban community" would narrow it down for me. Otherwise they could be of any race.
-
That's cause you're "special". ;D
-
Most inner city gang bangers are Black. They are THUGS. Whites, Hispanic, Asian gang member and criminals are also THUGS. I think the OP needs to watch "Gunga Din" again.

A better test would be: If you decided to guess "black", would you be right most of the time?

Don't micro-aggress me, sir! ;D

Nope. Thugs has precisely zero racial connotations for myself, and I dare say most people.
Now, if you want to assume that most thugs are black, that's not my fault.
But then people can make anything into a "dog whistle"

What's the demographics of our prison populations?

Plenty of thugs of all colours there.

I really don't know, I'm asking. It's "colors" Jeff, colors. Your penance is to spend three nights at Valley Forge in the winter like right now, and recite the Star Spangled Banner backwards! ;D

Enlighten me on the reference. That's the 2nd one I've seen.

Thanks for polluting an intelligent conversation with nonsense. How you got from generic use of the word thug, to a racist dog whistle word is beyond me, but I'm sure you can justify it in your fantasies.
And you accuse me of stupidity?!?!?

It seems that my assertion is not supportable in the sampling size that PS provides. I can accept that.

In other words, you're going to find a sampling that gives you the answer you want?

When the newspapers report "A man is wanted on suspicion of X crime" and then don't add a description to aid identification, we all know what that is 'code' for.
