Title: Starbucks asks police to leave.
Post by: Little Joe on July 07, 2019, 05:43:47 AM
A customer didn't feel safe with police officers in the store, so Starbucks asked the police to leave, after they purchased their coffee.

Starbucks did apologize later, but it is still an example of the Starbucks liberal culture.

I might go to a Starbucks tomorrow and make an order, but before I pay for it, I will say I don't feel safe WITHOUT a cop standing by, so I am leaving.

I wonder if Starbucks has a "gun free" zone policy...

(I don't drink coffee so I don't ever go into a starbucks).

I’m not sure I would call that shit Starbucks sells as “coffee”.

A few years ago Peet's implemented a no gun policy, and Starbucks did not, so gun carriers flocked to Starbucks. But they messed up; they held open carry rallies at the Starbucks which attracted anti-gun protestors. Starbucks rightly didn't want their stores turned into platforms for political confrontations, so Starbucks "requests" that its customers refrain from bringing firearms into their stores. But as far as I know they have not implemented the no guns legal requirements such as in Texas you must post a certain warning and to my knowledge they haven't, so it's still legal to carry into Starbucks but their official wish is that you don't.  I take that to mean they don't want you to open carry and (wink wink) if it's concealed it's concealed. Hence no posting that you may not carry concealed.  I don't take that to mean Starbucks management supports guns, it just means they are smart enough not to alienate all the pro gun customers. That's the latest I heard anyway.

Starbucks allows guns, but they prefer that you carry concealed.  In my state I can do both, but never open carry as I don't want to attract attention.  The only time I have OC'd is in the deep woods.

I love Texas. On most places here if there is a sign at all it usually says “Unlicensed possession of a firearm on this premises is a felony.”   In other words, all you licensed carriers are welcome!

Still, until the corporate culture requires store managers to use their brains to welcome all lawful customers including LEOs, military, etc. and give managers the responsibility to tell petulant customers to pound sand if they are offended by anything, THIS corporate culture will continue to prevail.

I want to know who that customer is and the name of the employee that told the police to leave.

I read somewhere that the Starbucks employee knew one of the officers as a regular customer and knew him by name. Not sure if or how that might have affected the employee's thinking. The customer who complained naturally should have been advised to leave if they felt uncomfortable.

I think the employee should have told the cops who the guy was and that he was acting suspicious.  Surely he was guilty of something if he didn't feel safe with the cops around.

Me to customer, "I'm sorry you feel that way, maybe there is another coffee shop close by that would like your business".

Me to customer:  "I'm sorry you feel that way.  Let me explain that to the officers and perhaps they will try to be less threatening".  (or not).

A friend of mine and I were out running errands after we hit the shooting range, and stopped in a local pizza/hoagie shop for lunch.  There were four police sitting, eating lunch (three men, one woman).  I thought NOTHING of it.  Nothing.  Big deal.  They have guns.  So do I.  So what?  They were having a nice lunch, joking, and being normal.  Before we left, I thanked them for their service like I do for military.

I know there are bad cops, and abuses, but most of them seem to be decent people.  People need to get off the "I'm Offended" train, suck it up, and if uncomfortable, just leave.  Also, if they don't like a mural depicting whites, blacks and Indians, maybe just don't LOOK AT IT.
