Title: Home Run Derby
Post by: Number7 on July 08, 2019, 05:03:30 PM
Baseball is paused for the All Star Game, which never really interested me, but I’m old enough to remember Gillette sponsored, Saturday afternoon Home Run Derby.

The new version of HR Derby is just starting in Cleveland.

When I liked HR Derby it was in the days of Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris, Willie Mays and Willie McCovey going at it, but I am looking forward to seeing if the new batch of wanna be studs can entertain me the wa6 their forefathers did.

I have heard the new baseball being compared to a Golf Ball, as it is so juiced now.  Also the bats are supposedly harder.  So, I think you will see some real moon shots.

My only connection to baseball is that I grew up with and played high school sports with Mike Scioscia, former all star catcher for the Dodgers for many, many years, and long time manager of the Anaheim Angels.  He was a childhood friend, and also he and his family were patients of my Dad who was a dentist.  He gave my Dad and I baseballs signed by all the Dodgers when he was still a player.  He's a class act.

I am a lifelong Phillies fan, but not a rabid baseball fan by any means, as the game has become to slow, and boring for me.

I’ve never seen two hitters go at it like  lad JR and Joc last night.
When Vlad finally won the second round 40 HR’s to 39, I told my wife that he wouldn’t have enough strength left to win the final.

Christian Yelich of the Milwaukee Brewers said that he looked at the number of swings he needed to take to be in the HR derby, and took a pass, saying it would clearly affect him during the all star game. Smart man.
