Title: mask police
Post by: Bob Noel on April 27, 2020, 06:28:38 AM
There is a website/app (BOS:311) where [Boston] city residents can report non-emergency issues like potholes and graffiti (this was in place long before the COVID-19 panic).

Now the app is being flooded with complaints about people "violating" social distancing and people not wearing a mask in public.

One complaint included "dogs running wild!".

I wonder if people will start complaining about improper mask usage (e.g., wearing the mask around the neck or the mask just covering the mouth).

For kicks and giggles, watch people that are wearing mask.  Look at how many times they touch their face.

This entire "Mask" thing is a do nothing, feel good response to make people FEEL safer.  Most of the masks I see are scarfs, bandannas, construction DUST particle masks, etc.  None designed nor used properly to stop pathogens.  It is the New Age equivalent to "Duck and Cover" for a Nuclear attack.   ::)

You mean if we get under a metal desk and hold our head in between our knees we won't all survive a nuclear attack?

Shit!

Who thought that up?

Houston has their own version of AOC.  Her name is Lina Hildago, and she was elected to a county executive position with no experience.  Texas calls these positions "Judge", so her title is Judge Hildago.

She is drunk with power and her new order is everyone in Harris county to wear mask outdoors for the next 30 days.  She even went as far as to say "No need to buy a mask, just use an old T shirt".   I kid you not.

Our desks were wooden and still had Ink Wells.  Even at that very young age, I knew it was all bullshit.  Made me the cynic that I am.  :)

Our desks were rocks and we had to scratch symbols on pieces of slate with another rock. We were made to do saber tooth tiger drills where we had to quickly climb trees to escape the beasts. I, too, knew it was a crock. A grock crock, if you will.

Yep. Too long in quarantine.

It's the early drinking.  If you just keep drinking through the night, it helps.

Yes, I suppose that's true.  On the other hand, until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 there was never a time in my life when I wasn't quite sure that there would, eventually, be a cataclysmic nuclear war between the USSR and USA, probably wiping out most life on Earth, and almost certainly me.  Today there are many people who have never even heard of the cold war.

Don't want to speak for Rush, but I think what she is saying is that the Government telling us to Duck and Cover to "keep us safe" from a Nuclear Attack was about as dumb as what we are doing now for the Virus.

Dumb indeed, but at least in the fifties and sixties there actually was a credible threat of nuclear attack.  Nikita declaring "We will bury you!" and all that.  This virus business seems to be well-overblown, largely fueled by a purposely ignorant press.

MAD kept everyone in check.

We finally won the economic war.  We broke them (financially), or we made them go broke.  Chose your vernacular.

Oh we are completely on the same page. I grew up believing there would be a nuclear holocaust. I indeed meant that ducking under a desk would do nothing to help but also everything else in the video like we know how to protect against car accidents, when cars didn’t even have seat belts, hahaha!

Agreed, and to go further, we had to contemplate life in a post-apocalyptic world, should we survive the nuclear exchange. We kids talked about that, and if you think about it, while Night of the Living Dead was about zombies, it could have just as easily been about bands of radioactive people dying from radiation poisoning.  Yes, we talked about that, especially reading the history of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, back when such things were taught in school.

Fast forward 50 years. We are now worried about roving bands of people not wearing face masks.

How have we become so pussified?

Thank the Baby Boomer generation for turning the Media, Entertainment, Education, Government and most of Corporate American into a Progressive wasteland making safety and security a religion

I’m afraid the human race may never recover from this. Technology now has replaced evolutionary strength and those who control technology control us and as we clearly now see, they are authoritarian. How would freedom lovers revolt and win when drones are tracking us and our every transaction, movement, conversation and even thought (through Internet searching) is being stored in databases accessible to tyrants.

We are weakening as a species, and this pandemic will only weaken us further as we are not being allowed to let it kill the weak and give the rest of us herd immunity, not only that, our immune systems are losing strength against all other pathogens. Humans are not meant to live in isolation, it is deadly to us.

I was out grocery store hopping, looking for a few rare items.

Other than the people going in/out of stores, I saw 22 people out walking in public.

1 person had a scarf covering her face
2 people had an actual masking... covering just the mouth
1 person had the mask around his neck

18 without any mask

I just got back from Walmart and nearly everyone there was wearing a mask, employees and customers. This was very different from a week ago when less than half the customers were. There was a palpable difference in atmosphere that I can’t quite put my finger on. I don’t know what happened. We are supposed to open restaurants this week but only at 25% capacity which isn’t enough to keep them in business. I don’t know how many mud bugs are being wasted.
