Title: Well that's unfortunate
Post by: asechrest on March 09, 2016, 01:46:50 PM
Quote
A gunshot fired from inside a pickup truck in Putnam County went through the driver’s back and out the front of her torso Tuesday afternoon. When a deputy asked the injured woman what happened, she said her 4-year-old son did it. Less than a day earlier, a Facebook post, which may belong to the victim, talked of letting a 4-year-old boy shoot targets.
[...]

The mother, identified as 31-year-old Jamie Gilt of Jacksonville, and her son were the only ones inside the truck and the boy was unharmed, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

She's in stable condition. Looks like she might have failed to strap her son into the booster seat, and left the loaded gun on the seat.  :-\

Edit - she's a big time gun activist

The son didn't complete Darwin's theory.

I'd like to know if the child was in his seat and secured properly along with where the gun was being kept in the vehicle.

Or a fallible human that made one grievous mistake.

I don't use the word "idiot" lightly, but really ... it fits here.  A loaded gun in a car with a kid?

Nope.  She was an idiot that made a grievous mistake.  I hope she learned from it.

The loaded gun was not the problem.  SHE was the problem.  It is not about the gun, but about the person.

kind of like having a bottle of drano or a bottle of oxycodone in the car within reach of a toddler.

She should have been wearing the gun, not left it within reach of a child.  This thread is just an anti (legal) gun hit piece.  I'm not surprised.

She made a horrible mistake.

Doctors have been known to remove the wrong kidney.

Pilots have been know to forget items, with sometimes fatal results.

With millions of people carrying concealed, these occurrences will unfortunately happen from time to time.

Yes, she should have been more careful, and likely was up to this one "brain fart". Not making excuses, but in a large enough population, things like this will occasionally happen.

understand.

too often the anti-gun crowd ignore the fact that every year billions (if not tens of billion) of rounds of ammunition are shot safely and legally.

It is kind of like focusing on alcohol-related deaths and ignoring the millions of people who manage to drink safely and "responsibly"

My God.  We need to ban doctors!

My God, we need to ban airplanes!

I've heard that some of these mistakes resulted in children being hurt.  We must act immediately, for the children!

Since the only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun, perhaps if this woman had another child with a gun, that child could have stopped this child. Think of the children, for Pete's sake.

No.  Gun-haters don't distinguish between accidents, acts of stupidity, crimes, and suicides.  It'a all "gun violence" to them.

But if Trump said it, that would be different.

Hardly.  It wasn't funny then.  It won't ever be funny.

Some people are just sick.

Not to worry.  There isn't a lot of water in Kansas, but ironically there was enough to have a tragic boat accident where all firearms were lost. I no longer have any to be taken by you or anyone else.   ::)

My wife lived in Putnam county (Interlachen for those questioning the veracity of the statement) for almost 40 years before I saved her from there :D
Seriously though, it is a very rural, if not one of the most rural, counties in FLA.  And dirt (sand?) poor unless one works in Gainesville, Jacksonville or Daytona Beach.  Not that either is an excuse for a terrible lapse of judgment.
