Consider this a poll of opinions wrt what you'all think the necessary criteria will be or should be (I don't care which)

Depends. What state are you talking about?

California, it will never happen. A Free state, it’s already happened.

Judge your state by what’s in between.

Between Cuomo and now Lightfoot, and I am sure more to come, suddenly having an epiphany and realizing that businesses must re-open, I envision that daily count miraculously plummeting.

I was thinking about the entire country, but your choice...

I assumed the entire country because the part that is really crimping my activities is not being able to fly to other states.  If I were landbound, I might think more locally.

I'd look for all locked down states to now see the light abd begin to reopen as if 1/21/2021. Gotta make Joe look good as the economy opens again and the numbers head up.

I don’t expect red states to change. They have not been implementing measures for political reasons.

I believe blue states will vary. For some, Biden’s election will signal there is no need to oppress people and make them hate the government anymore. Others will continue.

The Big Shift Continues, Narrative Now: ‘Lockdowns Have No Benefit’
Posted on January 15, 2021 by Sundance

The transparency of timing is brutally obvious.  Yes, the far-left was willing to put millions of American’s through economic pain and hardship in order to advance their interests.

Last week New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said the economy had suddenly become more important than the threat presented by COVID-19. Too much economic damage was inflicted upon his state and now wants to re-open.

Yesterday, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced the economic damage to the service industry was so severe it was now greater than the COVID risk…. and will reopen bars and restaurants.   Today, a new study shows no benefit to the lockdowns.

The motives here are exactly as outlined for the past year.  The fear of COVID was weaponized to damage the global economy and in doing so damage the reelection guarantee of Donald Trump. Now that mission is accomplished, the walk-back begins:

[Newsweek] A new study evaluating COVID-19 responses around the world found that mandatory lockdown orders early in the pandemic did not provide significantly more benefits to slowing the spread of the disease than other voluntary measures, such as social distancing or travel reduction.

The peer reviewed study, which was conducted by a group of Stanford researchers and published in the Wiley Online Library on January 5, analyzed coronavirus case growth in 10 countries in early 2020.

The study compared cases in England, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, Netherlands, Spain and the U.S. – all countries that implemented mandatory lockdown orders and business closures – to South Korea and Sweden, which implemented less severe, voluntary responses. It aimed to analyze the effect that less restrictive or more restrictive measures had on changing individual behavior and curbing the transmission of the virus.

Would anyone else care to weigh in?

Do we keep the masks and lockdowns in place even when the US daily rate falls below 175/day*?

*consider the daily rate of influenza deaths year after year

Masks are here to stay. For years the Chinese walked around with stupid masks just for regular flu. Now we are China in more ways than one.

Mask mandates do not work.  For the first 6-7 months of 2020 very few Americans wore any masks, perhaps in part due to the statements by Fauche on 60 Minutes.

But after they started in July or August, cases and deaths rose significantly. Why?

See this article about Wisconsin and it’s mask mandates.

no no no.... masks work...if the mask mandate wasn't put in place, the cases would have been much much worse.

Do you understand?

btw - maskachusetts was past the spring surge when the gov ordered masks be worn.  And then the fall surge started and the gov ordered masks in all public places regardless of distance (*cough* science? *cough*) and still the fall surge continued.

I've seen little sig claiming science trumps politics.  Yeah, right.

Went to the Motor Vehicle Administration today and waited a very short time before being called to the counter where a mask-wearing, nearly non-English speaking, hispanic woman tried her best to make a two-minute task take forty-five minutes.

When she had to read the written report provided by the state from my optometrist, she spent at least twenty minutes staring at it, trying to decipher what all the English words meant. I'm sure her mask was a great help, especially since she was five feet away, and behind a plexiglass shield.

Eventually, a supervisor wandered over and took the letter out of her hand, made a couple of key strokes on the keyboard, and handed me the renewal.

When I get the automatic email survey I intend to write very plainly. Even their equal-opportunity hires should be able to understand it.

Most places I go never bothered to take the plexiglass down.  It’s sooooo stupid. But at least nobody around here is wearing masks anymore.
