Title: Volunteering for Campaign
Post by: JeffDG on March 15, 2016, 11:09:29 AM
Hope anyone who has said anything negative about Trump has never volunteered for his campaign!

Quote
2. No Disparagement. During the term of your service and at all times thereafter you hereby promise and agree not to demean or disparage publicly the Company, Mr. Trump, any Trump Company, any Family Member, or any Family Member Company or any asset any of the foregoing own, or product or service any of the foregoing offer, in each case by or in any of the Restricted Means and Contexts and to prevent your employees from doing so.

Volunteers are required to sign a contract that they will never, ever, say anything negative about Trump, his family, or any product that he offers.

3. No Competitive Services. Until the Non-Compete Cutoff Date you promise and agree not to assist or counsel, directly or indirectly, for compensation or as a volunteer, any person that is a candidate or exploring candidacy for President of the United States other than Mr. Trump and to prevent your employees from doing so.
Also...no changing your mind and supporting anyone else, either now, or in the future if Trump runs for President again.  Additionally, if you own a business, you must also prevent all of your employees from working for another candidate.

That's the Art of the Deal. Duh.

I've never seen a volunteer position have a non-compete. That seems to lack one of the items essential to a contract. Consideration.

The Consideration is that they get to bathe in the glow of their Dear Leader, Mr. Trump.

Do you intend to suggest that other campaign's have no similar requirements?  Because the author does not actually go that far, and in fact, makes no attempt to address whether or not he even made an effort to review let alone compare to others.

Looks like most NDA's I have seen in my business life, and is about as enforceable, or not, as most of them have been.  I have signed NDA's and such when volunteering (not for campaigns since I don't do that anymore), and non-disparagement was part of some of them.

Again, treating a campaign more like a business makes sense given this candidate's background.

I get that some people are literally pulling their hair out today trying to throw every bit of monkey shit they can to see if any of it will stick, but this is weak sauce.

As the article points out, as volunteers it is highly unlikely that much of the NDA would be enforceable, but when someone has a lot to lose, say as a business person or I don't know, a would-be Presidential Candidate for the most powerful nation on Earth for example, taking steps to protect and control potentially sensitive information is important.

Your mileage may vary of course.

I've never seen a campaign request a no compete or no disparagement contract of volunteers, particularly one with no end date.

How many current or recent campaign volunteer NDA's have you seen?
