Title: Sales Tax holiday in Taxachusetts
Post by: Bob Noel on June 24, 2021, 06:54:23 AM
In recent years, Taxachusetts has had a sales tax holiday weekend in August.  Stores get *very* busy that weekend.  In the days leading up to that weekend, some stores even setup paperwork for the sale to occur that weekend.

The Taxachusetts Gov (Baker) has proposed an expansion of that sales tax holiday... to the entire months of August and September.

A proposal that is likely doomed to fail in the heavily liberal legislature, but I like the in-your-face proposal.

Part of Gov Baker's reason for the proposal is that tax revenues are several billion higher than projected for the year closing 30 June.  This comes at a time when the usual liberal push for higher tax rates on millionaires has put a petition on the ballot (or at least are pushing very very hard for it).

Kind of a neat two-for-one on the part of the Governor...

If you are at or near retirement with a net worth of one million, you’re no better than middle class in today’s dollars. Guess that’s what the left call “taxing the rich”.

Meanwhile corporate billionaires and political multi-millionaires (politicians become filthy rich on low government salaries somehow... dark money, grift, selling favors) these people aren’t touched at all.

Amazing how many career politicians get into politics with near nothing, and amass great wealth on a government salary.

 And no one questions it.

Everytime I hear liberals blathering about tax the rich, I can't help but think "dang, I'm going to suddenly become 'rich'"

We used to have a sales tax holiday before school started and one other time. Not sure when it was done away with.

I always wonder if they will continue to agree when they become rich.

No, because what they really mean is "Tax anyone that is richer than me".
