Title: Stopped for Walking While Black

Quote
Dorothy Bland is the dean of the school of journalism at the University of North Texas. An African American, Bland also became a recent viral phenomenon when she accused white police officers of detaining her for “walking while black.”

Dash cam to the rescue for these two policeman who were trying to keep her out of harms way and she had to go and write an op-ed about it and end up making a fool of herself.   Sad, very sad.

The victim mentality that seems to have become so prevalent in the last decade or so is sickening.

The video is complete, and comprehensive. I can understand her being intimidated, but the implication in her piece is that she was stopped simply because of her race.

Too bad--this was actually an opportunity to write perhaps a much more interesting piece on the difference between expectations and reality. I'm not sure why she was asked for her I.D., it is true, but aside from that odd part, she was treated with the utmost courtesy and perhaps even concern.

I was a little curious why she didn't use the sidewalk.  She wasn't really running, just walking fast and flailing her arms.  Did it not used to be the law that when walking you always faced the traffic?

Ben, I was curious about asking for ID also. It is quite possible that it is standard procedure to run the ID for past warrants for anyone they talk to?  Don't really know for sure.  They wouldn't really know if she lived in the neighborhood or not.

Yes, asking for ID is standard practice.  I have no problem with police asking for it, as long as it's not required to be able to produce an ID.

Don't get me started on sidewalk usage.  I'm not sure how the hell the current trend of not using them got started, but it makes me furious that it's in fashion to walk in the street now.  They've been doing that in our town for a couple of years now.  We have perfectly good 4 ft wide sidewalks, and for whatever reason, people walk, usually side-by-side with their friends in the road.  It infuriates me, and I've had a couple of close calls when I've had to swerve at the last second to miss people.   I wouldn't mind someone grazing a few people.  Maybe they'd start using the sidewalks again.

I just lay on the horn and drive by at a snail's pace.  Sometimes their reaction requires a flying birdie to appear in addition to the horn.

The only thing I can think of is that the street is generally easier on the feet. When I jogged, I always used the street as a preference--but on the side facing traffic, and then I would hop up on the sidewalk when a car came in that lane.

As a cyclist, I almost always use the road. It is MUCH easier and smoother on racing cycle tires.

And it isn't just that--she's a journalist.

More than that, she is tasked with and allowed to TEACH our future journalists.

Just about all universities are progressive centers for indoctrination, but journalism schools have to be the worst.  They all generate good, little commie/fascist, brainwashed ACTIVISTS.

My wife majored in journalism at a small Midwestern college. She has said that what we have seen over the last 20-30 years is unrecognizable to her understanding of what journalism was supposed to be.

Political polarization sells, so that's what is produced instead ethical journalism.

The dangerous part isn't the amount of political editorial, but rather, that the line between news and editorial has faded. This is the expectation now—so much so that any outlet not clearly in a person's camp, is accused of being in the other. Political zealots won't even entertain the idea that a source is neutral.

I am tired of being sold fake controversy.  The media creates its own "news" through unethical means, and ommission of the truth.

The concept that whining pays is what drives the attention whores these days.

Exactly.  The media knows phoney racial, or other identity politics SELLS airtime.  Everyone has been conditioned to stop, and look at the false narrative, and made up stories of racism, sexism, homophobism (is that a word?), etc.
