I don't understand the description of his duties, nor do I understand exactly what he's accomplished nor the metrics by which his accomplishments were measured.

Nope, the US media would have leaked our plans to the Germans, and the international media would be bemoaning how the US was going to invade to slaughter those mostly peaceful Nazi's.

We have top generals who would alert the enemy so the media wouldn’t need to.
(Seriously though, the regular volunteer grunt still kicks ass and have put their lives on the line up to the present. I’m not worried about our current cadre of soldiers.)

The guys that do the actual fighting, and dying? Those guys will press ahead, and are awesome. True warriors.
