Assuming Trump, nor Cruz, nor Kasich get to the magic number of delegate, who do you think will really be the eventual nominee of the party?
Will it be Romney? How about Ryan? Myabe the establishment will go with Kasich? What do you think?

Right now I believe they are grooming Ryan. With that being said, anyone other than the current primary candidates spells disaster for them in November.

I expect a total surprise. And I expect to be disappointed.
But, what I see as the most likely is that they pick one of the three current candidates. And I just can't see a brokered convention nominating either Trump or Cruz.
President Kasich any one? Several polls say he can beat Hillary.

Kasich won't be it either. I do agree with you on a possible surprise, but that surprise will be another Republican like McCain or Romney. Either way the RNC will commit suicide in Cleveland and help the Democrats retain the WH.
-
As of right now, I'd say it looks like Paul Ryan seems to be the favored one. Anything is possible, but for the sake of the party and the country, I'd much rather it be someone currently running for us to have a shot at getting the White House.
-
I don't think the GOP is that stupid, though I know that's a leap of faith on my part.
I think the nominee will be either Trump or Cruz, period.

I'm not so sure. The establishment doesn't want to lose its power, so they may very well try something. I haven't heard Reince Preibus actually deny the possibility.

He's too smart of a man to get involved with something as disastrous as this.

He has denied it on the radio here in Milwaukee. Of course, I've lost all confidence in him, so I would your it past him.

Well, he's bought most of them off already (I'm sorry, I mean he made detached and disinterested contributions to their reelection funds because that's what businessmen do) so in reality he's always been the establishment candidate.
I suspect the RNC wants to deal with the guy who "makes deals" instead of dealing with Ted Cruz, who has de-pantsed the establishment and showed us all that they are testicle-free.

The more I think about it, the more I think this was the "throw Donald a bone" meeting such that he'd accept the outcome of a contested convention without throwing a hissy fit.

That's pretty funny.
...and then there's the news after the election of Hilary Clinton...
Bill Clinton accused of raping two year old twins. Attorney General Rosie Oddonnell immediately announces that pedophilia is a 'choice,' not a crime.
George Soros named Ambassador to Israel. Demands Israel be evacuated by all Jews to make room for more Muslims too lazy to work, Communists and Welfare recipients.
WWIII begins when Poland passes law making abortion illegal.
Clinton Administration announces that parents are required to choose their pre-school aged children's gender based on formulas given to them by the federal government. No alternative choices are allowed.
and on the same day...
Clinton administration announces that NO parent may attempt to choose their child's school. All school choices are to made by the federal government for your own good.
Federal regulators announce all income shall be first paid into the treasury and redistributed across America based upon formulas taking into account voter registration, political donation history, and facebook posting tendencies.
Tens of Thousands of American families forcibly evicted from their homes to repair sexual orientation of neighborhoods along the lines of a formula developed by Hollywood producers, and funded by Apple. Gay majority neighborhoods are specifically exempted.
Obamacare is radically changed to deny all access to healthcare to any citizen who can be shown to be pro-life.
By 2020 the last 310 Tea Party members have been rounded up and executed in Oregon, Washington, California, and New York. President Clinton promises to eradicate all Tea Party subversives before the end of her fourth term.

We elect Presidents now on personality, not how they can do the job. Look at Obama. An empty suit, but he speaks well (reads from a Teleprompter well), and has charisma. Bush doesn't have that. He also has the Bush name baggage.

no ability to the job.

Good point. I don't think she's electable due to her personality, and lies. She is very uncomfortable, and not genuine. However, the media is in the tank for her so may get her elected anyway.

Look what the media has done with their $2B worth of coverage of Trump, taken a totally unelectable buffoon and made him nearly the Republican nominee. That's basically their plan, once they get him the nomination, the media will turn on him and cut him to shreds. They did it with McCain, and they'll do it again if the Republican primary voters don't stop the media from picking the nominee again.

What Jeff said, however, was factually and historically accurate. The press plays with the GOP like a Lab plays with a stuffed toy. They chew on it nicely for a while, and then disembowel it. We've seen it again and again. They "pick" the GOP nominee that they believe can be beaten, build him up, only to tear him up once the general election begins.

I'm President, so what would I care if it would be a clusterfuck? HAHAHAHAHA. Screw the little people! HAHAHAHAHA.
Though it would be fun to take AF1 into the hold over Green Lake on the Fisk Approach just to see whether ATC asks me "Blue and White Boeing, rock your wings."

Would you insist on getting checked out as PIC in a VC-25?

Would you insist on getting checked out as PIC in a VC-25?
Absolutely. And not SIC either. Left seat or nothing.
In fact, I'd get type ratings in a B-52, B-1, B-2, F-15, and the SR-71.
Oh yea, the SR-71 is coming out of mothballs and we're going to be doing speed runs over the US and Russian airspace.
-
No F-22?
-
No F-22?
Oooh yea. Forgot that. I had to marshal a Raptor last year at AirVenture. It was taxiing down taxiway A1, and so we had to remove cones from the threshold of 18 so he could get through to take off. That's a 150 foot wide runway, and I was removing the cones from the west half of that threshold. I ended up being about 10 yards off the runway when he fired up the afterburners. So 75 ft + 30 feet or call it 100 feet from the engines. My ear plugs were...inadequate. I could feel my heart and lungs vibrate in my chest. It was friggin' awesome. Painful but awesome.
-
Would you insist on getting checked out as PIC in a VC-25?
He can have the VC-25A. I'll take PIC in the F-15 or F-22

That is even a worst nightmare than Obama due to the Supreme Court appointments Hillary will make. If she wins we are due for the darkest period America has ever seen. If she succeeds in Australian style gun confiscation things will get very ugly.
-

I don't think so.
But to Kasich's delusions, polls may show him favorably because no one knows him, and he hasn't been subject to scrutiny as he's never been a competitive candidate. Shine the spotlight on him and he'll fade away.

It's only inevitable if you hate your country and won't fight for her. I don't think that represents ANY of us here at Pilot Spin.

I'm reviving this thread since some time has passed.
I don't really see Trump getting to the magic number. And in a contested convention, I cannot fathom that Trump would win under any circumstances. But then again, I can't fathom Cruz winning either. And Ryan has pretty much ruled himself out.
So who will it be? Does anyone think Cruz has a chance in such a scenario? How about Kasich?

A contested convention assures a RNC loss in November. Middle class voters already feel disenfranchised from the process and a contested convention with a nominee being selected and the public being told "Sorry bout that folks, but it's our party, and that's our rules, so you just get out there and vote for this guy because we know what's best for you!". It won't fly and about 30%+ will sit out the election in November.
The RNC should have been working to get the party unified and get behind the front runner, and most importantly support him. Instead the far right ideologues have taken over and are willing to burn the house down to get their way. All of their talk of inclusion and expanding the voter base has been meaningless pandering, when push came to shove the real RNC revealed themselves.
To your question. If it does go contested I don't think we know who they will inject as the candidate. I don't think Paul Ryan is out, he wants the party begging him to come to the rescue. In the current state of affairs I wouldn't even put it past them to bring out Jeb Bush.
-
Kasich said he has friends on the rules committee. ;)

What about the 2/3rds of GOP voters who DIDN'T vote for Trump. What makes you think those 2/3rds are going to go the polls and vote for a liberal democrat dressed up as the GOP nominee?
The utter delusion of Trump and his sycophants that think a "plurality" is equal to a "majority" is stunningly stupid. Likewise for anyone ridiculing "the rules" as if "stupid" rules like the majority requirement was invented just recently at RNC headquarters instead of in Ripon, Wisconsin in 1856.

Yes, please keep reminding us how Wisconson is the birthplace of the Republicans and just how pure you are. Speaking of schtiks that are getting old......
Your absolute hatred of anything I post clouds your reading comprehension. You are acting more and more like your Canadian buddy where you would rather name call and attack than actually discuss the subject.
I gave my opinion of what I think would happen at a contested convention. Since your guy Cruz has flamed out his campaign and now has no path to the nomination, you and the other ideologues are now clinging to this contested convention hope in order to get your guy nominated. Like I said earlier, the GOP ideologues are prepared to burn down the party to get their way.
If the RNC does not get their act together, and soon, the pathway for a democrat win this November is wide open. The RNC has made a huge mess of this years nomination process, thanks in part to Rience Priebus. The factions of the party, the ideologues, the Cruz supporters, the Trump supporters and the Kasich supporters need to figure out a simple, simple problem: "United we stand, divided we fall".
Please carry on with your personal attacks now.

It would be useful if you could at least, in some small way, attempt to stay on topic. Again, all you want to do is keep deflecting.
Come back when you can actually contribute to the conversation. I realize in your ideological world that you feel you must control the subject and the conversation, but at least make an attempt to be considerate of others and make a gesture of inclusion ( I know, in your world inclusion is a dirty word, but give it a try).

Nope. Cruz knows that, as do I. The difference is that Trump and his sycophants want a coronation, complete with crown and bouquet of flowers, before the first round of voting happens, due solely to their "belief" that Trump should "get" the nomination when he gets to Cleveland, because he has the most votes.
That's not how this works, and has never worked.
-

In the ideologue's mindset, every vote cast not for Trump equals support for Cruz, which, of course, makes him the clear winner.
Common core at it's finest.

What people are responding to is Trump exposing the primary process and people are learning that in some states going to the polls and voting for a candidate does not necessarily equate to their candidate getting delegates. Today, Pennsylvania will be one of those states.

Trump's rants go FAR beyond that, where he's telling anyone willing to listen that he should get the nomination because he has the most votes, period.
But as to your point, what would Trump have done? Does he want the RNC, whom Trump calls corrupt and incompetent and too powerful, to now FORCE states to select their delegates the way that HE wants?
Which is it? He can't have it both ways.
