I'm shocked! Shocked I tell ya!

“Iran so far has followed the letter of the agreement, but the spirit of the agreement involves Iran also sending signals to the world community and businesses that it is not going to be engaging in a range of provocative actions that are going to scare businesses off,” Obama said at a press conference.
“When they launch ballistic missiles with slogans calling for the destruction of Israel, that makes businesses nervous.”
“Iran has to understand what every country in the world understands, which is businesses want to go where they feel safe, where they don’t see massive controversy, where they can be confident that transactions are going to operate normally,” he added. “And that’s an adjustment that Iran’s going to have to make as well.”

the man is an idiot.
businesses are not snowflakes, feeling safe doesn't mean anything. Businesses go where they can make money.

So let me get this straight. The most anti-business president since Woodrow Wilson is saying this Iran deal was all about getting businesses to invest in Iran?
Anyone want to bet that Iran isn't following the letter of the deal either?
What a fucking moron.
-

I don't think they're following the letter either. I'm not sure we'll ever know for certain though since part of the deal apparently included a clause that the IAEA and other watch dog groups couldn't report violations.

I doubt there has ever been a dumber leader in American history, with the possible exception of Sheila Jackson lee.

I like you guys, but sometimes you are all completely blinded by your partisan love fests. If you could get over even a smidge of your disdain for Obama, you'd see a little clearer.
Along with the Iran deal came the lifting of international sanctions, which is a significant event for global business given that Iran is the world's 28th largest economy.
However, it's not as simple as just going where they can make money. Global businesses want to be reasonably assured of long-term success before they invest in infrastructure and logistics. Remember that the international sanctions can be reapplied at any time for 10+ years if Iran is found in contravention of the nuclear agreement. A number of international and US sanctions also are still in place. And we are about to have an election, making possible the prospect of a Republican president - perhaps with a Republican Congress - who wants to apply more sanctions. Further, Iran has significant corruption and domination of industries by state companies.
So despite the hate for Obama on this board, he's right. Global companies wishing to invest in business in Iran need to feel comfortable about the long-term success of that deal. Political and military grandstanding that raises the ire of the international community against Iran is likely to make those businesses think twice about whether Iran is truly ready to join the world stage.

Maybe the disdain for the President stems from the fact he's actually a bad leader.

If Texas were its own country it would be the world's 12th largest economy. Instead of making bad deals with a country that wants the bomb, wants to destroy Israel and hates every thing about the U.S. and we continue to enable them, how about we focus on supporting our own economy and putting good policies into place here?

Political and military grandstanding likely mean that Iran isn't abiding by the deal at all. Businesses are smart and will invest where they think it's prudent for them. We should be focused on ensuring Iran doesn't get the bomb.

oh yeah, talk about being blinded....
Can you admit when obama says something stupid?

Yes.
Now I'll wait for you to respond to my post.

Ok. You don't like the Iran deal. I'm fine with that. But my comments were about businesses investing in Iran, not the deal that is already done.

Come on. Just by Iran's own actions, and irrespective of "grandstanding," do YOU think Iran is ready to join the world stage?
Would you invest in a country that constantly threatens death to Israel and the United States?

I wouldn't. Which is mine, and Obama's point. Sanctions are lifted, but Iran has to show the global business community that they're ready to enter the world stage.

Well, some companies are ready to take the risk:

Will prove interesting to see how that works out. You are correct that until Iran can demonstrate some measure of political stability that will allow companies to invest long term with low risk, it isn't going to happen.

Like I said, businesses are smart enough to determine whether they want to invest in a place or not. The President shouldn't be surprised that Iran is grandstanding and that they aren't ready to enter the world stage. Iran could prove that they're ready to have sanctions lifted by their actions and yet they're firing off missiles and continuing to talk about destroying Israel and the U.S. Why aren't the sanctions back in place? The Iran deal and the business environment are linked together.

Agreed. Who is arguing otherwise?

How do you know he is surprised?

Sanctions haven't been reapplied because Iran seems to be following the letter of the deal.

Where can we find the text of the deal?

Thanks, I'll try to read it tomorrow.

Only!?!!? 159 Pages!!! And to say they're following the letter but not spirit of the deal is a way of saying there were clauses they forgot to put in writing. Meh, amateurs.

Yeah, I was a little surprised that it was only 159 pages too.
But your assessment of "amateurs" is excellent and spot on. There was a whole book on the topic of amateurism in the Obama administration.
http://www.amazon.com/The-Amateur-Edward-Klein/dp/1621570908
And "amateur" is what trump is trying to say when he says we have stupid people making our deals for us. And John Kerry is among the stupidest. I recall hearing him say that if they tried to put anything else in the document they would never have gotten the Iranians to sign it.
So yeah, we have a bad deal negotiated by stupid amateurs.

And always look to see what the other hand is doing.

You don't seem to think that the two are tied together somehow (businesses in Iran and the nuke deal), but they are.
fSanctions haven't been reapplied because Iran seems to be following the letter of the deal.
How do we know? Part of the deal included inspectors not being able to release any violations. I don't think the Iranians ever had any intent of following the deal and their recent actions lend support to my theory.

The idea that the current president is brutally incompetent, out of his depth in a kiddie-pool, and seemingly determined to destroy our economy on the way out the door, of COURSE it's all about hating the black man... Where is that sarcasm thingy???
-
I guess this is what Obama calls Iran living up to the "letter" of the agreement:

I don't know. Ask your president. He's not mine any longer. I impeached him in 2010.
