I might be a low information voter.
But at least I'm not a low understanding voter.
There is a difference between accidentally shooting someone and intentionally shooting someone.

Ah......OK.
So the actor claims accident because he didn't know how to handle a firearm. Ever hear of manslaughter?
The rancher was defending his property, and felt endangered. Remember, not only were these perpetrators breaking federal laws, but they were also breaking state laws. The rancher was in all rights to shoot.
What's at argument is the harsh bail placed upon the rancher for protecting his family and property. We watched ANTIFA burn loot and pillage, and even harm individuals only to get a slap on the wrist and released.
If the rancher was a die hard leftist, and some guy wearing a MAGA red hat was trespassing and the lefty plugged him, think the outcome would be the same?
These invaders are being given more rights than citizens.

Baldwin is also a Producer of the movie and should be held liable for allowing unsafe gun handling.

But it was an accident..........

He spent all those years bashing the NRA. If he would have took just one of their safety classes the cinematographer would still be alive.

Thus, he was negligent and why he was charged with manslaughter.
But, he's free as a bird, still working and with his family.

I hope he gets a nice prison sentence, but I also believe his case and the ranchers are apples and oranges. Baldwin was negligenti n his firearm handling, but I do believe he had no intent to cause harm. So I agree with the manslaughter charge. The rancher did make a conscious decision to shoot in the direction of the intruders (was it proven they were armed, too?), even if it was self defense. Is he being railroaded? Possibly. I haven't been following too closely, but it sure seems like they were quick to charge and lock him up.

It depends on the State and jurisdiction but generally, outside your home, if you can avoid harm, it negates you're right to shoot in self defense. If the illegals broke into his home, different story. In PA, if someone enters your home illegal, you are allowed to shoot as State law indicates you can assume they are there to do you harm.
My first instinct in a dicey situation is to escape, evade, avoid as even a legal, "good" shoot can get you legal problems and hundreds of thousands in lawyer's fees, court costs etc.

It’s a weird story. He says it was several men and they were armed with rifles, and he shot above them as a warning. They ran. Later one of the intruders was found dead of a gunshot wound. The others with their alleged guns were nowhere in sight.
Giving warning shots will work against him. For self defense you have to fear for your life. They’ll argue that if he feared for his life he would have aimed to hit, not fired warning shots.
Either he’s telling the truth but one of his “warning shots” actually hit someone, or he’s lying and deliberately tried to hit them, even lying that there were more than just one, or he didn’t hit anyone and one of the other intruders shot the victim after they went out into the pasture.
It’s horrible that landowners adjacent to the border are put into this situation because the federal government won’t do its job and secure the border. He was defending his property if not himself and has probably been dealing with these illegals for years.

I recommend these people: https://www.uslawshield.com/ It's like $140 a year. They cover you completely if you're involved in a self defense shooting. They provide the lawyers, cover all legal fees, and in Texas even the civil suit, but that might vary by state.

I hope Baldwin gets a nice prison sentence too, at a not-too-nice facility. He was careless and lied about it afterwards. If it were you are me, we would be in deep doo-doo.
And I think the rancher should be paid a bounty, not charged.
My point in my previous post was that it is, as you say, apples-to-oranges, and that . . .
Well, never mind about my second point.
