Granted, I don't fly a 757. Or any big iron for that matter. But, I'm thinking the captain that allowed passengers to board with 110 degree heat outside, and no air conditioning inside the tube should be staked out in the desert.
Am I missing something?

I didn't see where it was a 757.
APU can easily run the packs, and I believe all of the gates at LAS have external air condition ducting as well.

I might have read the 757 part in the comments. But I agree, there were probably several ways to cool down that airplane. IMNSHO the captain should not have signed for it, and allowed pax to board without having some sort of AC running. I didn't read anything about other planes having this issue.

The newer generation 737's really suck on the ground with regards to AC. Just seems like there's hardly any airflow with the packs on. Even with the engines running the packs are weak.
Airbus has really robust AC packs, and the cabin cools really nice. The 757's had good AC packs as well.
Will be interesting to see what happened.

I'm surprised someone didn't try to open a window.

When I flew at a large regional they often would defer one pack on a certain model jet that the remaining pack just could not cool the plane, especially if it was heat soaked. I refused the plane many times despite pressure to take it. Young Capts and wimpy Capts would take it and the poor passengers suffered.
As for ground AC at the gate they often didn’t work very well trying to cool a hot plane on a hot ramp in the southeast. It’s frustrating for the crew trying to do the right thing but management only cares about getting that flight moving. Some things apparently don’t change.
