good grief.
I realize several posters here don't care about the NFL. I just thought it was kind of funny that a FOOTBALL game would have a weather delay.

Probably for lightning in the area.

true.
And I'll probably catch some flak for this, but lightning this far north just ain't what it's like down south.
Growing up here in the northeast we didn't run away from every thunderstorm. Apparently that is not true today...

I know NASCAR does that now. If there is a lightning strike within eight miles of the track it starts a twenty minute clock rain or no rain. They tell the people in the stands to find shelter.

Same thing on the airline ramp. Nothing moves when there is lightning around. Rampers take cover.

Average of 21 deaths by lightning per year over the last ten years. So far 11 deaths this year. Lots of stats here:
https://www.weather.gov/safety/lightning-fatalities (https://www.weather.gov/safety/lightning-fatalities)
Stats suggest to me a bit of over-caution relative to risk. However, since males are the ones mostly getting hit and more often work outdoors than women, I could see why they predominant. Also, they (or their bosses) probably see a benefit of continuing their work in spite of lightning. Why add even a small risk if you're doing something simply for fun?

Now look at the number of drownings in a bathtub each year.

Whatever the stats, something about personal experience makes you become cautious about dangers. I know two people killed by lightning in two separate incidents. Since then I have greatly respected lightning conditions and stay out of them. I also know two people killed by being hit by a train, also two separate incidents. So they don't seem that rare to me. So I slow down and look for trains, even if there's supposed to be flashing lights and bells and a bar that comes down. I don't trust the electronics to work. Hubby gets annoyed with me when I get annoyed with him just barreling over the tracks at 70 mph like it was just another part of the road. Sorry not sorry.
