As many, MANY rational people have noted, much of the mmgw religion is based off of manipulated, or fabricated data. Apparently the academic left at the UK meteorological office is an excellent example of the complete lack of integrity when it comes to climate science.
In the tradition of faux science everywhere, they used over one hundred non-existent weather recording stations to fake the outcome so it matches their political agenda, and that of the leftist horde destroying any credibility climate science is able to muster.
The fact that not a single of their predictions have ever come close to being true, climate change religionists continue to push failed claims and hoax after hoax. Makes one think they use the same leaders as the fake COVID scam.

I agree if that's the case. I think the purpose is to have a regular grid of temperatures across an area. If it's impractical to put a temperature monitor in some location, then its theoretical temperature can be interpolated from nearby sensors. Like the one mentioned that would have been at a beach and regularly submerged by the tides. It's pretty normal to fill in missing data by interpolation from adjoining data.
HOWEVER, such missing data should be noted and regularly checked to be sure that it is interpolated correctly. Yeah, it looks bad to have "made up" data. But it's probably just normal data analysis.
