Each year the debt ceiling gets raised. Then why even have one?
Unless convinced otherwise, I believe there should be a debt ceiling. The government must reduce spending until spending <= revenue. I have to live within a budget and I don't get unlimited spending. Why should the government? Otherwise I'd just buy a new Cirrus jet and never worry about paying for it.
I'm sure that's a very simplistic view. Change my mind!

I'd prefer to see a balanced budget amendment than keep the debt ceiling.
Of course we couldn't balance the budget in 1 year or even 10 or 20 (or could we), but such legislation should require minimum progress in that direction on an annual basis.

That's the true beauty of X. Used to be out of sight, out of mind in DC. Now what they do is being distributed widely and the political class is finally being held accountable to we the people. People are finally learning that they get what they vote for, and they don't like it.

Coincidentally I just made a post about that. DC is aghast and offended that the people suddenly have a clear window into their erstwhile obfuscated machinations. And are holding their elected representatives accountable. They’re not used to that and are getting all puffy about it.
