Not the entire face, but certainly an example. She was allowed to collect her Government paycheck for six months after being put in memory care. Can we ever fix this? We should demand our money back.

Elected officials have given themselves privileges of nobility. They are no longer accountable to the people that elect them.
Once upon a time they were public servants working on our behalf, no longer.
When a congressman or a senator misses a vote, we should know why. And like any other employee there should be no unexcused absences.
We have these scumbags doing insider trading, kickbacks using our tax money, secret slush funds to pay off sexual harassment claims, voting themselves pay raises, writing legislation to exclude themselves investigations, misuse of campaign funds, etc, etc.
And with voter apathy so widespread, they continue to get re-elected. Term limits are a good start as a balanced budget amendment. Tie their compensation to actually doing what we send them to DC for and have penalties for not completing the job.
As for Kay Granger, she should be held to repay the government for her pay plus all expenses since she defrauded the government.

Do they get pensions? If so it’s generally lower than your salary. The minute they put her in a home, her PoA needed to submit her retirement, stop her paycheck and start retirement payments if applicable. Not to do so is fraud and charges should be brought.

Yes they get pensions, and to qualify they only have to serve a minimal amount but forget how long. Plus a ton of perks!

You should look into federal judges. They go into "senior" status, essentially retirement, and get paid the same salary for life.

I believe it's five years. The real question is why?

I have no idea about theirs, but I worked for state government (school system, in the construction dept, not as a teacher) and it was 5 years back then, but since I left they raised it to 20 years.
At that point I had a choice between that job at a low salary but with the pension and lifelong medical insurance, and a job in the private sector at a much higher salary, but no pension or retirement insurance plan. To me this is a fair tradeoff. But for these politicians I have a feeling they get both a high salary AND the retirement pensions. Especially since they don't actually do anything productive and are probably more often a net negative for us.

I love my pension. The state of Illinois was given a choice... pay state workers more now or give us a bigger pension when we retire. It was an easy choice for the state: kick the can down the road and let someone else worry about it. So the longer I work the higher percent of my salary I will receive, forever, when I retire. I think I'm up to around 45% now. Oh yes, and a guaranteed at least 3% increase every year once I retire. That's why Illinois is broke. They removed the pension option a couple of years after I was hired.

Why should any Congress critter collect a pension after five years?
