Title: Saying Goodbye To A Loved One In The Spring
Post by: Number7 on February 15, 2025, 09:36:08 AM
We’ve spent most of the last week comforting a dear friend as she slowly succumbs at 98.
Her decline has been a series of ups and downs that sort of torture you as we think she has turned a corner and will rally back, only to see her suffer yet another precipitous drop toward death.

Our dear loved one out loved every single relations she had in this world and has depended on my bride and I for just about everything.

The ICU staff is preparing for her to be transported to hospice but I doubt she will live thru the afternoon.

We all have this appointment with death but it shouldn’t seem this sad.

Be safe, take good care of yourself and your loved ones.

E sure to hold them tight while you still can.

My mother passed away just a few weeks shy of her 97th birthday.  Her biggest problem in her last years was the fact that all her friends and family of her generation had died.

On the one hand it’s an achievement to live that long but on the other hand it is indeed very sad. To have been young during WW2 with all the memories of times past and have so few people or no one close to you able to relate to it. Your past is gone, and not appreciated by younger people. The music you loved, the fashion, the culture and the experiences; just your memories and even those fade away.

Shit, you’re making me cry. I’m glad your friend has you and your bride to care for her.

We were talking about all the ways she enriched our lives since we chose to adopt her as our immediate family.

We always had her with us when hurricanes came thru. Our hurricane parties were even more fun because of her sense of humor about it all. Holidays had her the center of our world. Even our kids came to love her.

She will be missed.

Sorry to hear about your friend. Y’all brighten and enriched her life. I’m sure she’s forever grateful. Nice your kids became attached to her too. God speed.

Very sorry to read of your dear friend's condition. Our individual mortality is the one shared condition that forever binds us together. It was good of your wife and you to help her and be a part of her life.

Dorothy awakened a little bit ago and tried to talk. It is way too weak.
I’ve been holding her hand and softly talking about all the things we got to do together.

My husband’s mother’s name was Dorothy. She passed away last October while we were there to visit. She was just one month from 94.  I told her that she raised a son that was a wonderful husband and father. She couldn’t talk but was semiconscious, I hope she understood. She passed later that night.

I’m certain our loved ones hear our voices, especially the voices of those they love, and continue to hear us right until the end.

Undoubtedly. It makes sense that we respond to love.

When our first was born something similar happened. I was having issues delivering the placenta after I had held her briefly, they took her and she was crying and they gave her to my husband and he started talking to her similarly to that guy and she did the same thing, stopped crying, opened her eyes. They recognize the father’s voice I’m convinced.

Our dear Dorothy passed gently about and hour ago.
She coughed a few times and stopped breathing.
She is in the presence of God now…
The world seems less beautiful right now.

Wonderful you were there for her. I’m sure it made it more comforting to her knowing she had friends who loved and cared for her.

Thanks for the kind words.

We are busy making arrangements and taking care of her final bills today.

98 years is a long life and for the last four years Dorothy was an integral part of our family, going where we went, spending every holiday and sunday with us.
Our kids got to love her just as much as we did.
