Title: Back to the electoral vote
Post by: bflynn on May 04, 2016, 07:48:29 AM
With Cruz dropping out the final election picture is clearer.  Is it time for Republicans to face the bleak and very blue electoral map yet?  Keeping in mind that the attachment I have is probably the most optimistic for Republicans that I can get right now AND that several of the polls are very old, my prediction today is that Hillary wins by 121 votes.  But also keep in mind that I called the 2012 race as "close", not the 126 vote disaster that it turned out to be.

If you disagree with, which states totalling 62 do you think flip to red so that Trump wins?

Since we're prognosticating, my blue additions are as follows:
New York - 29
Florida (really just winter NY) - 29
Alaska - 3
Looooong shot Arizona - 11

That brings Team R one short not including AZ

I don't think Trump has a hope in hell of taking either CO (9) or NC (15) and I would put IA (6) in the "Leans D" column.

I disagree but only because Hilary Clinton is so remarkably unlikable. That squawk box of hers is so annoying that people will actually be forced to not only hear it, but also listen to the idiotic nonsense that she spouts in her speeches. That alone should account for her losing at least five leaning states.

I think Trump has a shot at Nevada, Arizona, Ohio and Virginia (despite what the governor just did). I think it's a long shot, but may be able to get New Mexico and Wisconsin (WI is a big long shot, but I think it's actually somewhat in play this year given that Cruz softened the ground).

There are other states that I think Trump has a better shot at winning than Cruz did, such as Pennsylvania.

I think Trump will win florida.  I felt that way even before I read this in the morning paper:
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/politics/os-trump-florida-republicans-20160504-story.html

I also think he has a strong chance of winning in N.Y.

Conversely, I think Hillary will lose in several other left leaning states.

I think Trump has a shot at swing states like PA, and OH, although PA has been trending Commie lately.  :(

New York?  You've got to be kidding.

Trump got 525,000 votes in the NY primary. There were 866,000 votes cast in the GOP primary.

Conversely, Hillary got 1,054,000 votes in NY, and the Dems cast 1,818,000 votes, twice as many as Republicans.

Trump didn't even win his own congressional district.

The GOP could run Jesus Christ and he would still lose CA, NY, CT, MD, NJ, MA, RI, HI, etc.

Jesus would have trouble in any State that is hostile to Christianity

And the Dems could run Marx, Stalin, or Mao and they would win.

New York has a closed primary.  Democrats couldn't vote for Trump.  But ~800,000 of them didn't vote for Hillary.  Add those 800,000 to Trumps 525,000 and he wins. (yeah, I know, probably won't happen, but . . .  they said Trump would never get to the general either.

It wouldn't surprise me if there were some Bernie supporters who are so anti-Clinton that they'd vote for Trump. It's likely a very small group of people, if at all. Probably the same size group that says they'd rather vote for Hillary than for Trump (which is not the same group that won't vote for either).

One thing you can count on is that all the dead people, people registered in more that one place, convicts newly registered, and phantom people, dogs, cats, and other pets, will be voting for Hillary.

A new electoral college prediction is out with my preferred third party candidate picking up a significant chunk of the east coast:

This would throw the election into the House of Representatives, however, it appears that the House of Representatives will no longer exist.

I've seen that and it's pretty funny.
