I don’t know if this has been posted here. It’s an open tab I can’t remember where I got it from. Anyhow, very frightening, but written in 2023 so maybe the Trump win means it might start to turn around, but it’s a very large ship with a lot of inertia. Aviation is prominently covered.

I'm not going to blame diversity for the decline in competency.
correlation is not proof of causation.
I will say categorically that the push for diversity over cability isn't helping, but I posit that even if diversity didn't become the god of so many people, we'd still have a decline in competency. I have no proof of that, just a gut feel.

I think we are expected to be so impressed that he used the word ‘Pleistocene’ in a sentence that we forget to question the lack of content in the statement.

It’s simple math!
Competency is related to intelligence and conscientiousness. Be smart, and actually apply yourself. That’s about it. These traits are set by adulthood.
Let’s assume the rates of those two qualities are identical in all racial groups, and for simplicity let’s consider just two categories: white and all other races (non-white).
White is 60% of the population. All others are the remaining 40%.
Assume both racial categories have the same competency distribution and to put a number on it and simplify, go by IQ alone. Assume only 10% of both groups have an IQ of 120 or above.
Assume you need 100 employees, and assume they must all have an IQ at or above 120 to perform the job well. How many applicants would you need to fill the positions if you want to mirror the racial makeup of the general population?
I’ll spare you the math but the answer is: 600 white applicants and 400 non-white applicants. You will then be able to hire 60 whites and 40 non-whites all of who will be qualified.
Here is where reality hurts us. What if you do not get 400 non-white applicants? But you must still hire 40 non-whites? You then must lower the IQ requirement until you are able to hire the required 40. Suppose you only get 200 non-white applicants.
Again I will spare you the math but in that case you must lower the IQ requirement to 113 in order to fulfill the target racial profile.
In the real world the target is sometimes a greater proportion of minority representation than the population (think all female airline crew), and often a lack of sufficient applicants to meet the qualification criteria. (Again, few women apply to be airline pilots.) This doesn’t even address the alleged (and controversial) disparity in intelligence between racial groups. Nor does it address the sex differences in jobs where physical strength are important.

I don't think it is necessarily diversity that caused this lowering of standards.
It is the recruiting and hiring of people because of their diversity rather than their competence.

It's all due to the math I referenced above. Is some of it due to historical discrimination? Absolutely! DEI was meant to correct for this, but it has gone far beyond simply leveling the playing field. If it had stopped there, then if you didn't get the required 400 non-white applicants, you simply had to end up with a higher proportion of whites than the goal if you wanted to uphold the standard 120 IQ.
But when identity politics gets involved, power, money, control, authoritarianism, what actually happens is you get neither merit or equality, you just get a declining civilization.

I had written "Complaints about rampant incompetency have been around a long time" but decided that was too bland, so changed it to something more colorful and exaggerated to grab attention. I expected a few might be quietly amused, a few who have chips on their shoulders might publicly react, and the rest move on to the next post.
The article itself was long winded. I started reading it, got the gist of its intent within the first few paragraphs and skimmed the rest. I believe none of the people who should read it will read it. Its message is simple and self-evident and could fit on a postcard. Or a forehead.

This why that tab was open for weeks. It took me that long to feel like digging back in and reading it all. It’s a big mouthful. I still might have skipped a few paragraphs, I just started it back up in the middle, not remembering where I had left off.

I noted this in another thread where the DEI hire controller had to Google an ATC term.
ATC is in a mess, and there is no quick solution.

I'm reminded of the scene from the movie Tuskegee Airmen where the cadets(?) had to retake the written test.
anyway, how about making sure those "DEI hires" are qualified... and it they aren't fire them. And apply the same evaluation criteria to others.

I'm convinced that the amount of intelligence in the world is fixed and distributed more or less evenly through everyone. Way back when there were fewer people, they were smarter and were able to invent things like the wheel, tame fire, and huge monuments. As the population grew, the amount of intelligence per person declined. We're only able to make advancements through rare people that got a higher proportion or by pooling intelligence in groups. The general population is getting stupider because there's less intelligence to go around. Notice that the generation that emerges after plagues or major wars is smarter? That's why the Boomer generation is so smart and the current generation is so stupid.

You can’t achieve “equality” when, on average, women and blacks have statistically inferior measurements on scales you require for job performance. Here are some hard truths nobody wants to admit:
Asians and Ashkenazi Jews score highest in raw intelligence. Sorry. Fact.
Whites score lower.
Blacks score even lower.
We can debate WHY these things are true, and admit and address possible systemic and unjust reasons, such as poverty, but we can no longer deny that they are true, yet we are still not allowed to talk openly about it. The fact that IQ tests were once racially biased has been corrected and you can no longer use that argument.
This is DIRECTLY applicable to ATC because you need high intelligence to handle that job. When you mandate DEI OVER that core requirement then you must degrade the performance potential of ATC as a whole, if you cannot get enough applicants of your target DEI minority who meet the intelligence requirement. No other way around it.
One of two things must be true:
1. Society is in denial about these facts, or are too stupid and misled to see them.
OR
2. Society knows these facts but doesn’t give a fuck, we don’t care if safety is compromised.
The sex differences are much more stark. With the IQ bell curve, you still get black geniuses with IQs north of 145, just fewer of them in absolute numbers. But the physical differences between men and woman are far greater.
The very best female world athlete can be beat by hundreds of high school boys in all sports involving speed and strength. There are NO women, zero, none, that can beat the boys. Biological reality. Mandating DEI equality in any job requiring strength or speed must by definition degrade the quality of the performance.
Women also have slower reaction times and psychological differences that make them behave differently in certain situations. Sometimes that’s a good thing, sometimes a bad thing, but it is a real thing and society is deliberately blind to it.
That female controller displays the emotional difference. Change the topic and the exchange between her and the male pilot is indistinguishable from an exchange between a husband and wife on some point of disagreement. The dynamic of a woman needing to exert verbal authority because women lack physical authority (by design, it’s not a bad thing, women need power in some area for their own survival) and the male tendency to diplomatically close the discussion so he can move on and focus on getting stuff done. It was so obvious and so cringe.
That doesn’t belong in ATC. Not saying women can’t be controllers. Unlike physical strength, women do fall on a bell curve in psychology, with some women having a more male way of thinking. There are just a lot fewer of them.

Correct! I’ve read that book. I specified PHYSICAL differences between men and women when I say they are much more stark. And then emotional and psychological differences. I was not implying anything about IQ sex differences but I can see how my wording led to that confusion.
Indeed there are more men on both tails than women so that is actually another factor hurting the effort to get more women into high IQ requirement jobs. But not one I addressed in that already too long post.
