U.S. — A district judge has issued a ruling saying Trump lacked the Constitutional authority to pick up two astronauts who have been stranded at the International Space Station for several months.
SpaceX has been ordered to return the astronauts immediately.
"I will not stand by while Donald Trump abuses his power like a dictator," said Judge Earl Flanders in his ruling. "Trump has no authority to pick up these astronauts, and I can say that because I'm a federal judge, and no one is allowed to argue with me, and everyone has to do what I say."
Eyewitnesses say the judge then donned a Keffiyeh and spray painted a Cybertruck while screaming "Black Lives Matter."
Sources in Washington say Trump plans to brazenly ignore the lawful order and bring the astronauts home anyway. "This is just the kind of wanton lawlessness we should expect from a dictator who is literally Hitler," said one legal analyst.
The SpaceX craft docked at the ISS on Sunday and was preparing for the return journey to Earth when the orders stopped the process short. "Please bring us home, I just want a cheeseburger and a nap in a horizontal bed," said one of the crew.
At publishing time, Trump was polling at 100% approval among the stranded astronaut demographic.

It's real. Grok explained it all to me. It was one of the other occupants of the space station who wore the mask when the SpaceX crew arrived. I ddin't know other people were aboard, I thought our two were alone up there but no, there are people coming and going all the time.

That’s a lie! The reasons they couldn’t return earlier are many and varied but they are real. What he is referring to is the Crew-8 Dragon which technically could have brought the two back earlier but would have left the ISS understaffed (only 3 when it needs 6-7) and that was unacceptable for good reason. It compromises safety (think routine maintenance of life-supporting systems) and the integrity of ongoing experiments (very costly if disrupted) just to name two.
An additional SpaceX flight bringing another replacement crew would have cost hundreds of millions which NASA did not have in the budget, so they integrated the two astronauts into the next expedition, extending their stay so the ISS could be adequately staffed. The astronauts could NOT have “left whenever they wanted”. It was not their decision.
So why couldn’t the Russian Soyuz bring them back? The Soyuz is designed for a specific crew, with custom seat liners and spacesuits, and iirc only seats 3, so technically it could have, but would have required modifications that would have taken months, and disruptions of its scheduled missions, all very expensive. And again it could only have brought back those two if others had arrived to keep the ISS staffed.
Shame on him. Having been an astronaut himself he should know the complexity of the situation. In fact, political optics was not the only reason “Biden” (if he was involved at all) rejected Elon’s offer to bring them back earlier. It was likely part of the reason, but there were many technical and cost obstacles that also played into it, and may have even been legitimately the main ones.
