I pray it holds. Blessed are the peacemakers.

I hope it sticks.

If it holds, this is absolutely historic!

There are so many stupid people I can’t even stand it anymore. People on x saying this is a lie, they’re still fighting.
Look at the time of the post, add 6 hours, then add 12 hours. ::)

Just don’t read the comments. That’s where they attack with the stupid. I follow the Cabinet and a few others, and just read what they post.

The left are mad that they were caught once again playing checkers while Trump was playing chess. This should be Nobel Peace Prize worthy (if it means anything anymore).

That's the other side of this that is noteworthy. Trump has been angling for the Nobel, which makes it really impressive that he decided to take aggressive action here. Think: his chances of winning the Nobel just cratered unless the outcome turns out to be pretty much best case - i.e. all of Iran's nuclear capabilities destroyed, they come back to the table with their tails between their legs, and a new, binding agreement is signed that's much stronger than the JCPOA was.
He must have known that he might be, likely was giving up that personal dream, yet he did what he thought was the right thing anyway. That's... as I said, impressive.
-
Hi azure :)
President Trump posted recently that he knew he wouldn’t get the Nobel no matter what he did. Honestly, I don’t think those kinds of “rewards” are what drive him. He jokes about not getting credit for anything he does.
Why would he try to please the type of people who would award OBAMA a Nobel Prize for doing nothing? I myself would want nothing to do with them. At all.
The Committee has sullied the reputation of the prize rather than elevating the recipient.
I think President Trump wants his legacy to be America restored to the people.
-
Interesting to contemplate: President Trump declining the nobel prize.

Wouldn’t surprise me at all.
He works for no salary, donating it to charity every year. He also doesn’t seem inclined to hang medals around people’s necks for every little thing, like the Dems seem to relish doing.
Honestly? I think his motive for the sacrifices he is making and the risks, and long hours, is love. He does thrive on challenges, but at his core is a love for people in general, and for America, and Americans.
And for God. We’ve all seen the journey he has made to this point.

Without the destructive, Leftist nonsense forced upon the country by the Democrats, Media, Entertainment, Education and Government, this country would be great again.
Trump wants a return to national sanity and pragmatism.

Even Fox News reported the quote Becky refers to as a "lament". I read it as basically sour grapes. I realize folks here tend to wax hagiographic over Trump, but he's human, after all. The important point is, he took a huge gamble for the benefit of the country, and at possible high cost to himself. I still say he deserves props for doing a hard thing not because of what he might gain personally, but because he saw it as the right thing to do.

Not to be Debby Downer but don’t be surprised if they keep fighting. I hope I’m wrong.

There's one possible scenario here that haunts me, and is about the only thing that would cause me to change my opinion of Trump's bold move: that Iran's being "weeks away" from a nuclear weapon turns out to be like Saddam Hussein's WMD - a lie, in this case put out by Bibi and the Israelis to justify launching a war to keep Bibi in office and out of jail. Remember that Tulsi even testified that Iran was nowhere close to having a nuclear weapon - though she backpedaled when Trump basically said she was full of shit. I tend to trust Israeli intelligence on Iran over our own - provided it's real. But I can't shake the thought that it might not be.
I don't THINK this is what happened, mind you. But it's a possibility, and I hope it's not the case.

I lament that you felt the need for that post. Hagiography refers to describing saints or idealized people. We know Donald Trump is human, as well as that he’s made many personal sacrifices and has taken risks and decisive action where other presidents have not.
I am going to trust that President Trump will not immerse us in war. He’s planted his flag and his legacy on peace. The world wants peace. The grifting warmongers are exposed.
All that said, the truth is obscure until it isn’t. Was Saddam Hussein’s use of chemical weapons on the Kurds faked so it would appear he had the weapons? We “know” (satellite pictures of trucks outside the facility) that the Iranian regime likely was able to remove the uranium before the strike on Fordow. Was this to prevent a radioactive mess? And how much of this was agreed upon by all players ahead of time? And so on.
What feels different this time is that we have a President who is dismantling the deep state, a deep state that could even have Iran in its grip. Wild times.

I worried about the same thing. I still remember Saddam’s baffled comments after his arrest, that he was deliberately putting out false information about having WMDs to deter Iran, and that he thought that’s what the U.S. wanted, him to deter Iran, which was indeed true. Maybe his mistake was not letting the CIA in the loop that it was all a ruse, or maybe he did, and the CIA betrayed him by lying to Bush. Or maybe Bush betrayed him, and lied to all of us, who knows.
However, I think our intel on Iran’s program is very different and Iran isn’t deliberately saying they’re enriching for a nuke when not really. That doesn’t make sense.

Yes, there are certainly images and memories of past Middle East events. We all have those memories now, and see patterns … guess it’s a feature of getting old. Almost everything we thought was true is turning out not to be. I agree the Iran situation is different. I also think President Trump is a pattern buster. He stated before running the first time that the system is rigged against us. And he was right. We’re in a struggle for our country itself.

I hadn’t known that. I was 11 when it happened. Reminds me of the documentary The Fog of War.

The younger generations are traumatized by Iraq and Afghanistan and very gun shy about anything that looks like the possibility of getting us dragged back into another pointless forever war. Those of us who are older, add Vietnam to that list! So I totally understand the doubters who feared Trump’s action would get our dicks caught in a wringer again.
But you have to step back and consider the big picture including the possibility that peace through strength requires you to prove the strength from time to time, AND that force must be overwhelming. Pulling punches in a weak way is what gets us entangled in ongoing involvement. You have to remove the belligerent’s ability to even think about winning, very decisively. Trump understood this.
From the beginning Trump’s rhetoric has been PEACE. And, he rightly has said all along that peace is not possible if Iran has nukes, so we cannot allow it.
Not fair, Israel has nukes, UK has nukes, etc etc. so why can’t Iran have them? The difference is Iran’s government is based on a fanatical ideology that encourages martyrdom. What keeps the rest of us from using our nukes is mutually assured destruction. We don’t want to die. Radical Islam has no such fear of death, not individually and not for the country as a whole. If the world goes up in multiple mushroom clouds and everyone dies, they see that as a win-win. All the infidels are dead and they get to enjoy their 70 virgins.

Oh, I don't think anyone believes Iran was enriching to >60% for "peaceful purposes". ;)
The question is, what were their plans, and especially their timetable, for joining the nuclear club? The most reasonable speculation I've heard is that they wanted to be in a position to assemble a bomb quickly, but still be able to deny that they were actually building one. My understanding is that our own intel pretty much subscribed to that picture. It was Israeli intel that purportedly said they were actively moving forward to put everything together. Maybe the disagreement isn't really substantive, more a matter of emphasis - but Tulsi's testimony in March (I think) was pretty clear and unambiguous. Maybe she overstated the point. The Israelis clearly have the most skin in the game here, but Trump is also correct that we can't allow Iran into "the club", and can't risk that they're about to join.
I still think the Israelis were probably on the level about this. As I wrote, given what they've been able to accomplish INSIDE Iran, covertly, speaks to a level of intel that we clearly don't have on Iran. I suspect we all believe this, at least for the moment. I only hope we're right.

He is absolutely human and in my opinion makes some mistakes. But I believe his intentions are good; he genuinely cares about the country and the people, especially the “forgotten man”. He never started out wanting to be president. Decades ago when he was asked if he would ever run for president he said he would only if he felt he had to, to save the country. I guess the specter of Hillary as prez was scary enough to make him do it.
All along the way it resulted in huge personal sacrifice. First, all the celebrities and Democrats who were his friends betrayed him. He became the target of hatred “like nobody’s ever seen”. His net worth went down during his first term and he immediately became the target of deep state persecution, open defiance from Congress, made up lies (Steele Dossier) to try to destroy him, all of this he had to fight while trying to function among traitorous staff and advisers.
When he dared to question the results of the 2020 election they escalated to criminal charges, multiple lawsuits. They threatened him with life in prison and then tried to assassinate him. Still he stood strong.
This man literally laid his “life, fortune and sacred honor” on the line for the country. That is; personal safety, wealth, and reputation. He risked it all, and continued doing so for a decade and counting. He had no way of knowing it would end well, and it still might not. One thing is for sure, no matter what happens he will continue fighting for us, for the U.S. He was asked once what is the single best piece of advice he has to give, he said, “Never give up.”

This is not a guy who is out to glorify himself. This is a guy who wants people to succeed in life. I can never watch this without realizing how right he is and how easy it is to give up.

Thanks a lot, we’re about to go in a hike in the woods this weekend. Gah!!!! I’ll be afraid to step anywhere!!!
And get off my Ceasefire thread! ;D ;D ;D
Actually, Rush may be playing 5D chess here. Let’s see how she is relating it to the ceasefire. The hidden snake represents evil and how it can camouflage itself. And we’re reminded of the old fable of the boy and the rattlesnake. Iran and Israel trusting each other. Unwise?

Yeah I see it now, and definitely a copperhead. Killed one a couple late winters ago. They’re common here in Alabama, as is just about every other snake.

Yikes. I don’t think I’ve ever encountered a copperhead but I have a memory of being about 4 years old, walking around some neighbor’s wooded lot and all of a sudden there was this rattling sound, and then I saw a coiled rattlesnake. I turned and ran home. On another occasion another neighbor was showing us a dead snake he had killed by cutting off its head. I don’t think it was the same snake but I can imagine the parents in the neighborhood wanting to kill all the snakes, what with us kids running around unsupervised. 😂

I know Texas has rattlesnakes, moccasins, and probably copperheads. At least rattlesnakes snakes give one a warning. Copperheads will bite you without any warning. There was a little girl a couple years ago here walking on a sidewalk and one bit her. Moccasins will actually chase you, very aggressive snakes.

What I saw was likely a timber rattlesnake. This was the western part of Virginia.

As a young boy, we live on the end of a sparesely populated dead end street. One day i was out in the lot across the street catching garden snakes. That evening we were out and when we came home there was a snake on the sidewalk. I figured I go pikk it up when my step father said to stop and he killed it with a shovel. Turned out to be a copperhead.
My last base in the Air Force was MacDill AFB in Tampa. A contractor was putting in duct for something and while moving the pile of duct found a huge rattlesnake. It was over six feet long. They cut its head off and it was as wide as my fist.

I figured that's why you did. We only moved to Texas a few years ago. I was born in Virginia. We lived in that one house just two years, when I was 4 and 5. So all my memories of that house are of me that age. I have no memories of the houses we lived in prior to that one.
