Title: One Big Beautiful Bill.
Post by: Little Joe on June 30, 2025, 05:15:26 PM
That an even dumber name than the Inflation Reduction Act.

I might like most of what's in it, as opposed to that other thing, but it is still a stupid name.

I see that the Senate is refusing to consider the BBB because it denies Medicaid to people who aren’t citizens of the United States.

Elon is on the warpath because of the debt it will incur.

Ron Paul has dubbed it the "Big Beautiful Bankruptcy"

I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with both Elon and Trump.

It is not possible to pass a bill that doesn’t raise the debt ceiling, but this bill does a couple of critically important things, like fund the border, beef up the military, and about 5 other things I can’t list off the top of my head.

But the optics of Trump naming it a “Big Beautiful Bill” are terrible.  What was he thinking? Our country is heading for bankruptcy from debt. Overspending from too many BIG bills. And he uses that very word - big - for his first second term bill. This bill needed at the very least, much better signaling in the direction of spending cuts.

However he doesn’t control the bill, Congress does. He influences it but cannot dictate it and being pragmatic he knows this. There is no way Congress would pass a balanced budget this year.  The best he can do is get things going in the right direction and that begins with certain non-negotiables like the border, and extending his tax cuts. By expanding the tax cuts, he might be counting too much on increased revenue, as he is on tariffs. The bill relies too much on imagined future income + continued future spending cuts, both of which might never materialize.

Elon on the other hand thinks Trump can somehow force Congress to pass a bill like Daddy managing the household budget. Now he is threatening to put everyone in time out.

A much better plan would have been for Trump and Elon to maintain a united front and work on a compromise, that they together pressure Congress to pass, slashing the spending more but accepting that obligations must be met so slashing too much right away would be so disruptive we risk losing elections and ushering in communism via the Democratic Party.

The worst thing they can do is display a rift in MAGA to the world.

Elon's messaging has been aimed on the Congress critters.

True, but that message is to not pass the bill and that he'd actively support opposition to anyone who votes for it.  I'd much rather see Musk and Trump working together for a compromise.  But Congress writes and votes for the bill.  And you can't make everyone happy.  I like several of the things in the bill.  I hate several others.  I'd love to see each item voted on individually but that will never happen.  The whole of government has become too big, too complex, and too polarized to ever get anything done.  Except to expand its own power.

Understand this is a rescission bill.   Why is this important?

Under rescission they only need a majority to approve and not 60 votes.  Some items can be put under rescission while others cannot.  The original intent of this bill was to codify the Trump Tax cuts into law and a few other items (border spending, military, eliminating benefits for illegals).   Once the House and Senate republicans got their hands on this, everything changed.  Pork was added, climate change bullshit added, increased spending among other things.

The republicans just can't help themselves when it comes to fucking up something.  Of course they will blame Trump, but in reality it's the RINO caucus that is doing the damage.   Remember, the republicans really don't want change, they are quite happy to see the spending sprees continue.

Trump could veto (if it passes congress) but then he would be tasked with trying another clean bill, in which the republicans would once again pull the same stunts.   Don't be fooled, the republicans would actually like to see the tax cuts go away as would the democrats.   This is their way of doing it and the extra added bonus is to blame Trump.   The UniParty wants their own back in charge.

We are coming up on 6 months of a new administration and a new congress.  This new congress has accomplished NOTHING and that's the way they want it.   Paul Ryan is the puppeteer behind Mike Johnson.

Yet another reason we need line item veto power for the President.

Yep, line item veto and get rid of omnibus.

Yep, I don’t know if there is any salvaging the country.

See, it’s to statements like this that we keep returning, after hope and excitement that the ship is turning. The disappointments occur. Fear of the left clawing its way back to power. The joy of winning the presidency (and a fabulous, groundbreaking one it is!) slowly leaches into fear of midterms. To finally see truth, only to see it obfuscated by lies.

I have to get off the rollercoaster. That’s on me. To see the news and not be destroyed by my reactions to it.

Yeah it’s a rollercoaster. We knew when Trump won that the war wasn’t over. I never expected Elon and Trump to stab each other in the back. Our side needs to stay strong. The left and the Marxists are getting more and more desperate. What happened in Glastonbury is freaky.

I'm just tired.  Tired of the MSM constantly being over the top negative about anything Trump.  Tired of everything being endlessly amplified.  It's hard to remain positive.  Just tired.  Time to go polish my plane and take a few laps around the field.
