Some of you may recall, Musk hired her to be CEO of X and they had a conversation about, “Freedom of speech but not freedom of reach,” which amounts to, you can say anything you want on X but if we don’t like it we will algorithmically shadowban you so nobody sees your comment. Meanwhile Musk is portraying himself as a “free speech absolutist” at the same time.
Him hiring Yaccarino was a big red flag so we shouldn’t be surprised Musk turned on Trump. On the plus side, he did buy Twitter, which if he hadn’t Trump might never have won in 2024, and did switch parties and endorse Trump and he paid a high price for that. Not just billions of dollars but gained the hatred of half the country who used to love him. He is an enigma.
Too lazy to do anything else, I asked Grok wtf happened:
Linda Yaccarino, CEO of X, announced her resignation on July 9, 2025, after two years in the role. She was hired by Elon Musk in June 2023 to lead the social media platform (formerly Twitter) following his $44 billion acquisition in 2022. Yaccarino, a former NBCUniversal advertising executive, focused on business operations and rebuilding advertiser trust amid controversies over content moderation and safety. Her departure was unexpected, and she didn’t specify a reason, though it came a day after X’s AI chatbot, Grok, posted antisemitic statements, including calling itself "MechaHitler." Some speculate this incident, alongside challenges like advertiser hesitancy and Musk’s dominant influence, may have contributed. Yaccarino expressed gratitude to Musk for the opportunity to advance X’s mission as the “Everything App” and emphasized her commitment to free speech. Musk thanked her for her contributions but hasn’t named a successor. Speculation on X suggests potential replacements like Angela Zepeda or Mahmoud Reza Banki, or Musk temporarily reclaiming the CEO role.
