Title: The Continuing Spiral Down of Hollywood
Post by: Lucifer on August 25, 2025, 12:08:57 PM

Hollywood is done.   All they can seem to crank out is a remake of another remake.  Nothing original.  That and "superhero" comic book type movies.

Scrolling thru looking at the latest movies this weekend was horrible.  They need to kill off the Mission Impossible series, enough already.

Hollyweird suffers from the same syndrome as TV, live entertainment, and book publishing. They’ve fallen in love with things that the public isn’t.  They want to lecture us on how smart they are and how backward we are, because… you know… they’re famous, at least in their minds.

Then they decide to keep making the same mistakes expecting a different outcome, because they have very little real talent.

The public is so over the overpaid, whining, special crowd.

For most people today they are over the whole celebrity thing.  Very few actual actors out there anymore.  And the movies aren't memorable.

I watch the Johnny Carson channel a good bit and wonder where all the talent went.

Red Skelton, Carol Burnett, Norm Crosby... the list is too long to even try to name.

These days they think the F word makes them funny.

I’m in the middle of “Once Upon A Time” which is good, and only getting somewhat woke in later seasons, and it is on Hulu.  Hulu is now yanking it in 7 days. Why? Because Hulu is owned by Disney. They are yanking it from Hulu to put it on Disney Plus to try to force people to subscribe to Disney Plus.

What a slimy piece of shit move.

Tried to watch yet another remake, this time "The Naked Gun".    Turned it off after 10 minutes.

They extended it, now there are 9 more days. But the final season just went INSANE woke. It’s almost unwatchable the stories are so bad and the casting horrible.

Logan Lucky is a sleeper but really good. The Gentleman on Netflix. Both the movie and the series.

I admire those of you strong of stomach enough to spend (waste) good money on the crap coming out hollyweird these days.

My wife and I went to see "I Heard The Bells" a couple of years ago, and it was the first time we had been to a movie theater in well over ten years.

I can't bring myself to give money to people whose behavior I despise.

I don’t.  Haven’t stepped foot in a theater in 30 plus years.

I stream with a super box so I get a huge selection of movies as well as new releases.  They don’t get a dime from me.

I can’t do movie theaters anymore because I’m too deaf. I need subtitles and am not going to bother with whatever technology if any they’re using to do that. Wear special glasses? Point my phone at the screen and have the AI translate sound to closed captions?  No thank you.

We subscribe to streaming services that offer a wide range, including old stuff and international stuff that we can avoid the worst of the woke.

I enjoy watching old B&W movies, actors like Bogart, Cagney, Mitchem, Stewart etc. Haven’t been to a movie theater in awhile. Still enjoy Chevy Chase movies, Animal House, etc. Even TV I don’t watch any of their shows. Can you imagine Archie Bunker today!

Some of the sort of old sitcoms are great, like My Name is Earl.  Holy shit that show is good. NO LAUGH TRACK for starters, relies on actually funny comedy you don't need to be told is funny by an annoying laugh track.

Best part, was inclusive WITHOUT being preachy and woke. Had the best black character in all of sitcoms (Darnell), a mixed race marriage, gay people, an illegal alien (sexy Catalina) and ALL of this was well cast and very well written. These were not DEI actors, they were chosen for talent, charisma, and fit with the character. They took on sensitive subjects like racism (Joy: "Oh my God it's a NEE-gro!") while always keeping the ultimate good, decent and moral lesson as the ultimate theme in the end. The entire premise of the show is making up for past sins and making the world a better place.  Pure genius.

We're not "racist" for hating having POC or LGBTetc crammed down our throat. What we hate is putting the DEI before the quality of the show and Hollywood and the left have just fucking completely lost the plot.  Literally.

Loved that show Rush. It was great and I was saddened when they took it off. Northern Exposer was another good one out the same time as Earl I think.

Yep. The Earl cancelation was a shock and unplanned. That left an unforgivable cliffhanger.  Oh well, I think the original Star Trek series was also canceled after only three seasons, Earl was four. Both went on to become very beloved more than they expected. But I guess they didn't suffer the decline so many series suffer after too many seasons.

I watched Northern Exposure when it was aired but don't think I've found it streamed anywhere since, I should look for it and watch it again.
